West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna has praised attacking pair Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini, stating that the duo give the Hammers a cutting edge in the final third.
The London club have completed some shrewd recruitment over the last 12 months and now boast a number of top-class options in attacking midfield.
Payet and Lanzini teamed up to devastating effect last season as West Ham pushed to challenge for a top-six finish and despite summer signings being made the pair are adjudged as Slaven Bilic’s main attacking weapons.
With the score at 0-0 against Accrington Stanley in midweek, Bilic introduced the pair from the substitutes’ bench and the French forward duly delivered – scoring an excellent free-kick at the end of the game to give his side victory.
Ogbonna has been quick to talk up the creative pair and feels that Payet and Lanzini have the quality to get West Ham’s stuttering season back on track in forthcoming fixtures.
“Every time when Dimi comes into the game he can change things. It is not just about him, but Lanzini as well. He can keep the ball,” the Italian told the club’s official website.
“Both of them are really important for us and they showed the different level they can bring to the team.
“It was a really tough game and it was not easy but we needed this win for the team and the manager.
“I am excited because we have not had an easy period so this victory is very important for us.”
