West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has admitted that the club face an anxious wait to find out the extent of record signing Andre Ayew’s injury.

The Ghana international moved to the Hammers from Swansea City earlier this month and featured in Slaven Bilic’s starting XI for the season opener against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night.

However, Ayew was forced off in the first half after pulling up with a thigh strain and was replaced by fellow new face Gokhan Tore.

The Turkey international struggled to make an impression after being introduced, with the visiting side not looking as dangerous an attacking force without Ayew’s presence.

With the potential for the African attacker to miss upcoming clashes both domestically and on the continent, Bilic has stressed that thorough tests on Ayew’s injury will take place on Tuesday.

“We have to wait – it’s a thigh injury,” the Croatian coach told Sky Sports.

“We have to wait until tomorrow to the scan and find out how long it’s going to be.”

Ayew’s injury comes as a blow to the London club, especially with Dimitri Payet struggling for match fitness and Manuel Lanzini currently unavailable.
