West Ham United’s potential to sign Andros Townsend has taken a hit, with Crystal Palace the frontrunners to land the Newcastle United and England star according to The Telegraph.

The winger moved from Tottenham to the North East in January but with the Geordies getting relegated, the attacker is said to have a £10.5 million release clause in his contract.

Townsend looks destined to leave St James’ Park and sign for a Premier League club this summer, with West Ham one of those potentially interested in landing him.

However, the latest report suggests that Alan Pardew is keen to add to his options in wide areas and sees the former Spurs star as a player that would fit into the Eagles’ expansive system.

Signing Townsend would be a somewhat controversial move for West Ham given his Spurs allegiance, while Slaven Bilic’s men are being linked with fellow widemen Roberto Pereyra, Gokhan Tore and Sofiane Feghouli.
