Former Hammer Iain Dowie has stated that West Ham would be making a huge leap in the right direction if they were able to sign French forward Alexandre Lacazette this summer.

The London club are clearly eager to land a centre forward that can return goals next season, with the Lyon attacker one of the priorities.

Slaven Bilic’s men have had an offer of £31 million rejected by the Ligue 1 club and are believed to be weighing up another bid for the France international.

Dowie has spoken out about his old employers and is full of positive things to say about the future of West Ham.

The retired Northern Ireland international believes that signing someone like Lacazette could take the London club to the next level.

“I think they’ve a great manager with Slaven doing what he has done in the last year,” Dowie told Metro.

“There’s talk of Lacazette for £30million and that’s a huge leap for West Ham. That really is.”

West Ham are also believed to hold an interest in Carlos Bacca and Michy Batshuayi, among others, but are yet to make any major progress on landing a new centre forward.
