After yesterdays £31 million bid was rejected by the Ligue 1 side Lyon, how much do they honestly expect to receive for their French International striker?
It seems highly likely that the Frenchman will be moving this summer, and due to the fact that he hasn’t been called up by Didier Deschamps, he won’t be able to impress at Euro 2016 and raise his price tag.
A summer tournament means players arrive back later, and if they perform well they usually get snapped up for far more money then they would have been before the tournament. James Rodriguez, for example, went to Madrid for mega money after the World Cup in 2014 where he shined as one of the players of the tournament.
Lacazette doesn’t have this opportunity, meaning that Lyon can’t hope he shines in the summer. The fact that he wasn’t picked in a squad that features Andre-Pierre Gignac, who is 30 and playing for Mexican side Tigres, could speak volumes on his ability.
Obviously, it seems normal that the first bid for a player would be rejected. If Lyon had accepted straight away many would assume that we had overbid for the player. But it is difficult to see West Ham forking out more than £33/34 million on one player, when we could get two Payet’s for the same money (theoretically speaking).
Would West Ham fans rather get a Callum Wilson and a Georginio Wijnaldum for far less money, or break the bank even further on Lacazette?
Gold and Sullivan’s next move will be an interesting one, The Insider on the official West Ham website claims that the club have moved on, but I’m sure we won’t have heard the end of this one yet. With Batshuayi looking more likely to move elsewhere, and Jamie Vardy/Callum Wilson not looking realistic at the moment it seems only a matter of time before we return with a second bid for the striker.
Let’s hope this time Lyon accept, and let’s hope he can live up to that price tag.
