West Ham United have abandoned attempts to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette after the club confirmed they will no longer pursue the Frenchman.

According to the Insider, West Ham bid £31 million for the talented striker but it was turned down, prompting the club to explore other striking options.

The article claims that the Hammers will make £20 million bids for UK-based players this week as they aim to secure a new striker signing in the next few weeks.

The likes of Jamie Vardy, Callum Wilson, Christian Benteke and Wilfried Bony have all been linked with the club in recent weeks. Bournemouth rejected a bid from West Ham for Callum Wilson whilst it remains unlikely that Jamie Vardy will leave title-winners Leicester for the Irons.

Christian Benteke has been constantly linked with a move to the Hammers and the Belgian’s lack of first team football under Jurgen Klopp may force the forward to look elsewhere.

The Insider also looked to clear up the speculation surrounding Reece Oxford’s current situation. There have been reports that the defender has turned down a new deal and is ready to leave the Hammers if a bid over £10 million comes in for the player.

Despite the speculation, the Insider stated that negotiations over a new contract are still ongoing and the young defender has not turned down any offers.

It now looks as if the club are looking to bring in players that are proven in the Premier League rather than competing with Europe’s big boys for players like Lacazette.
