West Ham United have offered rising star Reece Oxford a new contract in an attempt to ward off interest from Manchester City, according to The Daily Mail.

The 17-year-old shot into the collective conscience by starring in the Hammers’ 2-0 win over Arsenal on the first day of the 2015-16 campaign.

Since then Oxford has been handed a number of opportunities to feature in Slaven Bilic’s first team but has spent most of the season in the youth ranks.

The latest rumblings suggest that Pep Guardiola has identified the West Ham starlet as a potential new signing upon his arrival at the Etihad Stadium, with the big-spending outfit set to attempt to bolster their number of homegrown players.

Oxford is expected to feature in the West Ham first team next season and a new deal for the teenager would be a real boost ahead of a move to the Olympic Stadium.
