West Ham have been given a boost in their pursuit of experienced midfielder Michael Carrick, with The Sun stating that Manchester United’s managerial situation could mean he can leave Old Trafford this summer.

The former Hammers youth prodigy has been a key man for the Red Devils over recent seasons but is coming to the end of his current deal and is a free agent at the end of the campaign.

The Hammers have been linked with bringing Carrick back to where it all began, with the England international playmaker set to have no shortage of suitors in the summer.

The latest report suggests that United will not offer the 34-year-old a new contract until the club’s managerial situation is clarified at the end of the season.

Louis van Gaal’s time at Old Trafford will depend on where the club finishes in 2015-16, with every chance that the experienced Dutchman could be given his marching orders.

This will dictate whether Carrick is offered a new deal, with West Ham and a host of other Premier League sides surely waiting in the wings and ready to strike.
