West Ham United have contacted Liverpool to gauge the potential availability of striker Christian Benteke, according to The Telegraph.

The Hammers are looking for a big-name striking addition this summer as a statement of intent before moving to the Olympic Stadium.

Although the likes of Wilfried Bony, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Michy Batshuayi have all been mentioned as possible targets, Benteke would also be an impressive signing.

The Belgium international proved himself as one of the Premier League’s most-feared number nines during his time at Aston Villa but has struggled to replicate this form since moving to the Reds in a bumper deal last summer.

With Jurgen Klopp looking to customise his playing squad this summer, there are rumblings that the striker could be allowed to leave Anfield.

West Ham have signed Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing from Liverpool in the recent past and would look for a cut-price deal for Benteke should the Merseysiders look to sell.
