Summer target Kevin Mirallas has stated that he could depart Everton in January if he does not get the chance to play more games for Roberto Martinez’s side.

The Belgian winger came on as a 64th minute substitute in Everton’s last game, replacing Arouna Kone in the match at the Boleyn Ground.

The likes of Kone and Gerard Deulofeu are ahead of Mirallas in Martinez’s first team plans at the moment and the 28-year-old has come to the realisation that he needs to be playing regular first team football. Speaking to HLN Plus, Mirallas outlined his plans for the future:

“In football you are sometimes faced with situations that you did not foresee,”

“In view of the national team I stay calm, because there’s still a few months remaining. But if the situation drags on, I’ll be asking the right questions in January, because if I do not play, it’s hard to win a place in the 23 for the European Championships.

“I now try especially to be a starter at Everton. If I get it, I see no problem.

“[Staying at Everton] is most certainly what I would like. I see at this point the future in my club, but if I in January I’m still in the same situation, something will have to happen. I have not yet talked to my agent, I concentrate fully on Everton.”

Although Mirallas is saying the right things concerning his commitment to Everton, there was uncertainty surrounding the player in the summer. The Hammers pursued Mirallas throughout that particular window but Everton rebuffed their efforts.

With the European Championships around the corner, Mirallas needs to be playing on a regular basis if he wants to get into a talented Belgium squad this summer. If the attacker becomes available in January, it would not be a surprise if Bilic re-entered negotiations with Everton in a bid to strike a deal, especially after Dimitri Payet’s injury against the Toffees ruled him out for around three months.
