Gold confirms striker hunt

Co-owner David Gold confirmed yesterday that West Ham were looking to sign at least one more striker before the end of the transfer window.

With Enner Valencia out for a number of months and Andy Carroll expected to return to first-team training in Spetember, the Hammers are anxious to strengthen up front.

Gold told Sky Sports: “We already believed we needed a striker because of Andy Carroll not rejoining the squad until September.

“Now we really must find another centre forward before the transfer window closes. Yes we would like two, but we have to be realistic.”

West Ham are understood to be close to signing a new striker but there is still uncertainty over who that particular striker may be. If Pedro decides to join Manchester United this week, it could speed up Javier Hernandez’s exit from Old Trafford, opening the door for a potential move to Upton Park.
