George MoncurSimilar to many of the youngsters currently amongst the playing staff at Upton Park, it would be an understatement to say that George Moncur, son of former Hammer John Moncur has struggled to nail down a place in the West Ham first team during his time at the club. Despite coming through the ranks at the club, Moncur is yet to make his league debut for the Hammers, with his only appearance being a brief one against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup last season. Moncur’s inability to break into the first-team at the Boleyn has subsequently led to him being shipped out on loan to AFC Wimbledon in 2012 but more recently, Partick Thistle of Scotland in January, and Colchester United of League 1 this summer.

Game Time Accumulated:

Moncur’s January deadline day loan switch to Scottish side Partick Thistle was not a particularly successful one. Despite signing on the 31st January, Moncur did not make his debut until 22nd March in a 1-0 loss at the hands of Inverness, and went on to make just one more appearance, in which he managed to grab himself a goal. This summer, Moncur secured another loan move, this time with League 1 side Colchester United, after training with the side throughout pre-season. Moncur’s time at Colchester is already more successful than that in Scotland, as the midfielder has quickly established a place in the side and scored twice in two appearances for the U’s.

Managerial Comments:

Colchester manager Joe Dunne was quick to sing Moncur’s praises during his pre-season spell with the side, telling the club’s official website “George has done very well, and has integrated well into what we do here and how we’re looking to play.” As well as this, following Moncur’s loan switch, Dunne has stated his trademark is “finding those players who need that moment to move into league games and we’ll hopefully progress him.”

Ready to Return / Permanent Departure?

Sadly, I currently struggle to see a place for George in the first team at Upton Park, nor can I see him setting the world alight and breaking into the side at any point in the future. His lack of exposure to first-team football not only at West Ham but also during his numerous loan spells, have certainly hindered his progression. The presence of Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate in the Hammers midfield, alongside the probability of continuous spending over the coming seasons, sadly means that Moncur may perhaps be better suited to playing in the Football League and will more than likely, seal a permanent move away from the Boleyn Ground in the near future.

Let me know what you think – do you believe Moncur has the potential to break into the first-team at West Ham, or would you have no qualms seeing him leave in search of first team football elsewhere?

BFS will not pick George Moncur , Poyet or Lee . Without any doubt they are already better than Cole ,Nolan and the Donkey ( Noble ) . They are the future of the club . BFS is not and should go now !!

Moncur is a young steady player with an eye for a goal . The death of Dylan was hard for him and he struggled . He now looks hungry and fit and will do a good job this season out on loan. Bfs is not really interested in giving youth a try and if he cant see that ravel morrison could be a world class player under the right guidance it leaves little chance for our other young hopefuls. I would rather bfs sacked and try someone different rather than watch the same old shit we have done the last few years .the only other alternative to the younger players is be bfs mate and even if you are crap like nolan you get picked every week ….

How on earth can u say noble is a donkey mate are u sure u never meant nolan or collins i suggest u look at stats and then in future think before u mouth off !

Agree, add Vaz Te to that aswell – CCole and Vaz Te are not good enough for PL football, Nolan has his moments but they when Caroll is on the park, however id rather see fresh legs in his role and we have 2-3 options who could fill it with the likes of Zarate, Morrison for s start – im a fan of Sam, he has been good for this clubs progress in the PL since promotion, he brings an element of solidity to our PL status, but i will be the first to admit he prefers experience over talented youth regardless – in fact Sams biggest problem is refusal to break out of his mould, he is too safe, wont take educated risks, not just with players but also tactics, that mentality saw us lose against Spurs at the weekend, that mentality will ultimately be to this clubs long term detriment – i believe west ham have a greater number of talents coming thru than Sam would care to notice, where other managers would see benefit Sam is blinded by his stereotypical gameplan, he doesnt place any trust in the unknown quantities, hence why experience is the only real blip on Sams radar, hence why Vaz Te and CCole are still at the club and whats more, with a mostly fit squad still make first team selection over players far more than capable and should easily be keeping them out of the team.

I can say that Noble is a donkey because I am entitled to an opinion just as you are . I am only interested in one stat . Where do we finish in the league ….. bottom or very close to it because week after week the same dead wood is picked , led by Noble who cannot make a killer pass forwards , cannot run , cannot read the game , cannot take corners or free kicks , cannot score goals , but you morons vote him player of the year . He would not get into the first team of any top 10 team .. mmm ..how many bids have been made for him ?? NONE .WHY>>> BECAUSE HE IS A DONKEY

      • John Henry says:

I suggest this a rather blinkered view… You are fully entitled to it, yes… However, calling us all morons won’t lend your view any more credence… Just a thought…

        • rivieralet says:

John Henry , I apollogise to you as , quite clearly , you are not a moron . You should read some of the other mails I have received from a previous post .
