A concern for West Ham?

Winston ReidWinston Reid has been “Man of the Match” (according to WhoScored.com) twice so far this season. Both just prior to the injury he picked up an injury in training, back in November.

Winston made four appearances off the bench during his comeback period. He has since started West Ham’s last three games, none of which have West Ham kept a clean sheet, including conceding three to Stoke City. Should West Ham be worried about his struggle to re-find his form?

In my opinion, Winston is one of the best “all-around” defenders that West Ham have had in a long time. His performances prior to his injury, including last season have been mostly fantastic and extremely consistent. This triggered West Ham fans to vote for Winston as Hammer of the Year 2012/13.

His injury has certainly hampered his form, and he is still getting back to full fitness. Winston is currently having to battle it out with James Collins and James Tomkins for the two possible centre-half spots. The two Brits have been in excellent form and have been a large part in helping West Ham have one of the leading clean sheet records in the Premier League. Tomkins in particular filled the void left by Winston and the two are now playing alongside one another whilst Collins is out injured. Three very good central defenders, a good predicament to have.

Winston is sure to be back to his best very soon. I’m sure next season will be another season to flourish for the New Zealand international. Let’s hope so.

Hey I thought Reid put in a good performance against Liverpool & neither of their 2 goals were down to him. Penalties were given away by James & Adrian. I still think the 2nd penalty was a harsh decision and the benefit of the doubt should always go to the defending team. A penalty has to be a clear cut decision, & no way was that clear cut, accidental yes. And I’d definitely say that James Collins would like to referred to as Welsh, as just remember, there is no such country as Britain. The UK is a union of England, Scotland & Wales, & the UK passport states the UK & Northern Ireland. James would be proud to be Welsh, just as the English are proud to be English, all of this UK stuff is very indistinct, as if Scotland goes there’ll be no UK, but enough of the politics, so lets not forget to give people the identity of their true countries, Tomkins is English & Collins is Welsh & proud to be a Celt OK?
