Garry Rodriguez

Bulgarian side Levski Sofia’s manager, Antony Zdravkov has claimed West Ham are in talks with signing winger Garry Rodriguez.

Zdravkov told Bulgarian media: “An offer was received yesterday afternoon” He continued: “He will undergo a medical in a team from the English Premier League. This team is West Ham. Now everything depends on the player and his agent.”

Despite all this, I’m sure – like me – you’re going ‘Who?’

There isn’t too much about the winger – WhoScored.com don’t even have any records of his existence – but I was able to find out he is an international for Cape Verde and his main attribute is his pace.

With Andy Carroll back, you’d imagine Matt Jarvis and Stewart Downing’s assist statistics will make more of a healthy reading, so is there any real need for the 23-year-old?

As both a Levski and West Ham supporter I know Rodriguez very well. He is too good to be in any Bulgarian side and for him a move to West Ham is like a late X-mas gift. However, on West Ham’s side, I fear, this won’t be a good signing, since wingers are not our chief concern. Big Sam has to focus on strenghtening the defence starting with some solid center-backs.

OH F**K NOT ANOTHER WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

We have Downing,Jarvis,Joe Cole.Guy Demel &”Roland” Rat can deliver decent balls into the box ,what we need is someone to get on the end of these crosses as well as a decent cb

As long as we don’t pay a great deal for him he may be an asset. Anyone with pace is welcome in our relatively slow team. The league is built on skill and speed, and someone who can come on with pace to burn in the latter stages of a game will cause tired opposition problems. He may not be a world class player, but tactically may be a more than useful sub. Plus it will push the best out of Jarvis and downing as they haven’t got much of a threat atm.

I agree, we have only been competing in games for a about 60-70mins (the Man City game aside) and some pace to bring on in the latter stages is something we don’t have – especially when we are looking for a quick counter attack when holding on to a lead perhaps.

Just a thought but is he a replacement for Joey Cole? Joe off to join Harry at QPR perhaps? I love him but he has definately been off the pace lately and would be a big saving off the wage bill?

Could be a good signing, he’s quick and skillful plus all our wingers are quite injury prone.

I have just checked this guy on the internet and at the age of 23, I would take a punt. This player h as technical ability as well as pace. If we do sign this player he will provide and score goals if he can adapt to the premier and also if Sam plays him. Born in holland playing youth football over there explains his technical skills, playing for Cape Verde , don’t make that fool us. Get him quickly before someone else does. He will score goals than Jarvis and Downing and looks better than a lot of players in our current squadrons can only improve it. Take a look at him.

  • Neil says:

Oh yes speaking English it should take him quicker to settle into the side and take instructions, if we make any foreign signings they need to be able to speak English to be able to help us now. And not by costing the club money we can’t afford on interpreters.

Don’t know who he is but we have a few that could make way. Hopefully he can run at defenders and get past them, then actually cross the ball and it lands on a forwards head and we score a goal and we win 2 games on the bounce. Haven’t seen that for a couple of years. Imagine that.

  • Will says:

Pace is what we need worth a punt at 600,000 euros

  • OSLOWHU says:

Worth a try! Jarvis has been awful all season.

  • razor says:

If can sell Jarvis its worth a punt as long as we get back same money. Two strikers and a centre back sounds good as Johnson certainly isn’t going to get many games when Reid and Collins and tomkins return. Wasted money even for a loan when chambers and Ruddock can do that job better, typical allardyce panic like pog absolutely clueless.

  • Smiff says:

It would appear we’re beginning to build a side for our assault on the Championship title next season……

  • bulgarian says:

gary the best player sorry england but gary signatures spain elche
