Rickie LambertAlan Nixon in the Sunday People writes that West Ham will offer £65,000-a-week to Southampton’s Rickie Lambert in order to tempt him away from St Marys’.

A fee has yet to be agreed but should it be, the England international stands to double what he earns with the Saints.

Sam Allardyce has been a long-term admirer of Lambert, who has six Premier League goals and five assists in 20 appearances, this season.

The Hammers are in desperate need for goals, as they currently lie 19th in the Premier League having scored only 19 goals in 20 games.

If we win at Cardiff next Saturday, get Carroll back playing, sack Nolan from captain (and put him out on loan), sign Ricky Lambert this month and manage to stay up then no one will worry about our 3rd XV (bar a few) losing today. Disappointing yes, lacking in respect for our opponents yes, out travelling fans deserve a refund yes, but a genuine expression of West Ham’s ability to stay up definitely not. All sacking BFS will do is create confusion in the transfer window, no players will want to sign (unlike Ricky L currently) and we will not get the players in that we need to stay up.
There are so many muscle injuries, disproportionately at West Ham than a lot of other Prem clubs, I would be investigating improved training, fitness and sports science options to improve injury rehab and reduce risks of more injuries. This is a club issue at Director of Football level not just BFS.

Lambert did not want to come two years ago. Last year, he said no again. What has improved (I’m not even using the word “changed”) to make him rethink it ?
