Marco BorrielloWE HAVE A STRIKER! I know, I can’t quite believe it but the last 48 hours have brought great news for the Hammers faithful.

With the signing of AS Roma forward Marco Borriello now confirmed, West Ham fans can start ‘YouTubing’ the Italian and begin to get carried away with what the 31-year-old might achieve at Upton Park.

The Serie A side have released a statement containing the details of the deal and, with a dodgy translation, it reads along the lines of:

“AS Roma announces that it has signed with West Ham United FC, the contract for the temporary transfer of rights of the player Borriello, until 30 June 2014, for a fee of € 0.7 million.”

So, basically, we’ve paid around £500,000 to take Borriello on loan.

What’s have your thoughts on the transfer?

The new striker will be isolated just like Maiga, C Cole and Carroll because of Sam’s outdated system. Hope I am wrong but can only see a minimal benefit.

By outdated system you mean the system 3/4 of the premier league use

is it any wonder we have struggled to get any strikers in when all fat clown knows is 451 this bloke will be paulista all over again bench warmer if fat clown tried 442 who knows we might even get goals anyone remember one of those????

It sounds like a great signing, they both do . It’s typical of Sam to sign players with a point to prove .Both have loads of experience at all levels from champions league to serie A . Just hope they settle down quick and show what they can do. COYI

if we do stay up they will be on the first flight out in may, who will we buy in the summer, we need a team not a waiting room for the elderly.

  • belhus says:

This guy knows when to make his runs off the target man you look at you tube and most of his goals are when he arrives late.
You certainly don’t get that from Maiga or C.Cole.
If Sam does play him off Carroll that will mean Nolan playing a different role.
So lets give him a chance and see what happens down the line

  • Neil says:

I’m only sure of one thing and that is we need 2 strikers 1 in midfield and 2 world class defenders. Ship out the players who consistently under perform and if Sam continues to play Nolan, who is not performing, ahead of Morrison we will go down. Why should Morrison be loyal to us when Sam is not being loyal to him when he is always kept as a understudy to a ageing player who had his feet up over the Christmas period. When he returned he went straight back into the team instead of sitting on the bench where collision was. I say bring in Glen Hoddle now and footballers may want to come to us. Sam as lost his mojo and will not be getting it back. If we are to stay up we have to start playing with 2 up front. I could go on.

I agree Neil you gotta go with two up front if we are to have any chance of staying up. What we have is a new loan striker with the same old team. New Good defenders are a must or we’ve had it. They will get rid of Sam no matter what come summer, so do it now and give ourselves a chance to survive. COYI

as usual five days left and its gamble time from the davids we need defenders we might be ok in midfield but we need to buy a striker who scores goals now not five years ago rhodes would cost a lot but hes scored a lot of goals hes gotta be ready to step up to the prem mccormack from leeds has scored goals this season if there clubs want inflated prices now then the davids have to pay big prices
they know what what happens if we get relegated anything worth selling will leave and squad players on big wages who no one wants will stick around for the money and be the heart of our team next season
i think its to late to get rid of bfs now were stuck with him all we can do is support our team and hope that the gambles pay off this time and i think we need a few more gambles to come in before the window shuts coyi

Two absolute diamonds ,In a few weeks time Gilbert & Sullivan will be explaining to us how unlucky we were to be relegated for the (second time) under their stewardship.

  • Aaron Hartley says:

Everyone bitches about an outdated system but what people forget is that in modern football the 4-4-2 is the outdated tactic

    • Neil says:

4 4 2 may be outdated but teams know how to play against west ham when we play one up front, teams stop us from playing down the wings and when all fails we start punting the long balls to our lone centre forward. If where conceding goals we need to score , Suarez & sturridge , negredo & aguero, Rooney & Rudd ,when on form they score goals. Unless you have players like arsenal or Chelsea who have talented midfield players who know where the goal is which we don’t. It’s about having a plan b and when we are chasing games and do go 2 up front there is no link up play between our forwards like the players from other teams I have previously mentioned. I just wish west ham could find a negredo type player because he can play up front and can also link up well with a partner up front, to be honest when we were chasing him in the summer it was never going to happen the buy of the season in my eyes.

  • sibbo says:

come what may fat sam has got to go he his terrible

  • marcus says:

Great signings, just look at there record’s, gonna stay up. Been shipped out on loan everywhere, have to be shit to want to come to west ham, after our recent record breaking loses.

  • Jack says:

All well and good signing a striker but I just don’t see him starting infront of a fully fit Carroll, unless the system changes like you’ve said, also Nocerino a player I rate from Italy who’s place will he take, I’d hope Nolan but you’ll bet it will be Rav/Diame

  • Tom E says:

Come on people. These are two very good signings and can’t wait tot see what we do against Cheslea. The month of February should be our turn around month.

  • Tony says:

Moan moan moan in all the years I’ve surported this great club I’ve never heard so much negative there doomed if they do and doomed of they don’t COYI

    • notanyoldiron says:

I take your point Tony. But I’m tring to remember when we last conceded 15 goals in 5 games. It’s worrying. And so is the apparent lack of morale in the team!

  • Billie boy says:

How can you not moan Tony , we’ve just lost another deal for a PERMANENT back player in Osasuna for 2 mil, peanuts for a quality player which we won’t have to pay out for come the summer when we send the Italians home We need bloody strengthening at the back and you say don’t moan

    WAKE UP. COYI

  • Neil says:

Well I’ve supported west ham through thick and thin since I watched them back in 1975 and will always. As Billie boy said we have lost out on a bargain buy and if relegated would be there for a push for promotion unlike the Italian players. We need to be buying a strong squad for the future but withdrawing from the move for the osasuna player makes me wonder if the owners believe Sam will keep us up and don’t want more players on large wages if we do as pointless having to lose money on them as well as losing money when Sam is sacked. All supporters have the right to moan and we are only being negative because there’s nothing positive to say. Now of Sam pulled a couple of world class stars out of the bag by deadline day and we start winning games then I could start being positive. If we brought in a world class manager that would be our best signing. Glen Hoddle is world class, still young in my eyes and still out there learning and understanding new systems.

  • Petewhu says:

Come on people let’s try an be a bit optimistic eh!!! They’ve got to cover their arses with loans an we have 1st dibs on noch at the end of the season WHEN we stay up!!!! Another centre back an another striker (pref proven prem) an we’ll be ok!!!!
