Big Sam reveals why transfer fell through

Lacina TraoreA week is a long time in football; this time last week we were still celebrating a vital 2-0 win over Cardiff City and the potential signing of Lacina Traore.

Seven days later, we are cursing a poor result and performance against Newcastle United and a missed opportunity regarding the Traore situation.

West Ham have missed out on the Monaco striker to another team – believed to be Premier League rivals Everton.

Sam Allardyce spoke out about why the deal for the Ivorian fell through, he said: “I had a terrible day yesterday when I found out that one player I thought was signing for us wasn’t,” he said.

And on the question of obtaining a work permit, he added: “They [Everton] can apply for a work permit like we did, they have to do a second application. Obviously if we got it they know they can get it.”

Do we not get promised big signings every window only to end up with a panic buy , what is it with this football club it’s turning into a circus

    • One Mc says:

Players won’t come because they know we have booing negative fans like you.

      • RVT says:

Or it might be because of the boring, one dimensional, negative way we play. Also all strikers know they will play second fiddle to AC because the owners and Sam thought it would be clever to say that when he is fit he is first choice no matter what. In reality, it has nothing to do with the fans.

      • ed says:

exactly mate.. sick of the fans who boo.. they should all do one and go support spurs or the orient

  • m ramsey says:

The clubs a joke when are sully and gold ,the apprentice and bfs gonna fuck off

  • whuboyyy says:

Nonsense. It is a circus. Laughing stock of the prem. Get Sam out I’ve had enough. Why can every other club achieve decent signings but us? Why start a season with one injured striker? Amateur performance by all involved at the top of west ham. Gutted.

  • hammers fan says:

same ole same ole story, as Lee says, things look very poor for West Ham now, I can’t see much light at the end of the tunnel, and I fear that relegation is the end result…..

  • westhamjef says:

YES KEEP GOING AFTER PLAYERS ABROAD THERE ARE SOME GOOD PLAYERS IN LEAGUES BELOW WE NEED MORE DEFENSIVE PLAYERS AND MIDFIELDERS WITH SOME PASSION TO LATE NOW I FEEL

  • westhamjef says:

IF WE WOULD HAVE BROUGHT IN DEFOE WOULD NOT BE IN THIS POSITION

  • peter iron says:

If we had signed Traore and he is injured for 6 weeks , the same fans moaning because we did not sign him would be crying for Sams head for a bad decision ,we don’t need anymore injured players .Table is still tight and everything to play for ,am i glad i’m not stuck in the trenches with some of you blokes for company .What the club needs is to all pull together and get behind team ,not booing when we went a couple of goals down .Negative fans have NEVER saved a club from the drop .

    • Eastender says:

True enough, but how can BFS blame defensive errors when it was HIS decision to play Matty Taylor at right back and that was the major cause of our issues , plus is Ravel really offering any commitment ? Get behind a team that is playing in position and actually cares about the outcome !!

  • Dave says:

Players won’t sign becuase they know he wants to play with 1 striker.
Cols signed because he couldn’t get adeal off anyone else, that miss yesterday was terrible I would have fancied someone like Baldock to tap a few of these chances in but we didn’t give him a chance.
Defoe wouldn’t com, he just got a 4 year deal on 90k a week in canada no one in their right mind would pay that for him.
I thought Villa done some good business, grant holt on loan, we offfered £6.5m 12 months ago for him.
Also shane long was a good deal, but our boys won’t pay the lolly.
There was only 1 real problem yesterday, was BFS selections, why an earth play Taylor at right back, he didn’t have a clue what he was supposed to do and they pulled him apart, he called all those defenders back in from loan, surely a proper right back would do a better job like Jordan spence who played well up old trafford last year.
Also wasn’t Diami a discrace ? Talk about an uninterested player, looked like a player waiting for the phone to ring, or knows its going to ring.
Also for gods sake get Downing on the left and let him cross the ball 1st time, Jarvis looks woefull and lacking confidence.
Keep the faith everyone, Nolan,Tomkins,Carroll (getting fitter) and don’t worry about the rest they are all average.Only other point, surely young Lee is worth a place on the bench i’ve seen a load of him over little heath and he knows where the net is.
No problems Man city next , lets put the kids in and see if we can break the record for aggregate win over 2 legs!!

    • Eastender says:

Totally agree. Diame is just running into trouble, Morrison seemed apathetic yesterday following his last abortive game, Jarvis always looks to go outside, thought he was two footed so why not come inside occasionally and surprise the defender,Taylor was completely lost back there and out of his depth, Joe Cole has lost his mojo and seems incapable of taking anyone on, other than that and ‘the misses’ yesterday I really thought we were going to come back like the Mackems did, but then we are West Ham. Like all Hammers fans we live in eternal hope that it will change and it will one day

  • tiger Tim says:

this site is a complete joke. How did your so called protest go yesterday?

  • Michael says:

Did I miss something – I still have no clue why Traore didn’t come to West Ham!

    • Heedsy says:

I think it’s the same old thing. Oik businessmen ducking and diving. Keeping all the options open and then finding the player has got pissed off and someone else stepped in. Rather than being dynamic, making a decision and sticking to it. I am utterly amazed we have only been a led to scrape up one reject div 1 player. Fatty would always play one of his players (Taylor)! than take a choice on youth.

  • Byker Boy says:

Newcastle fan here, I’ve always admired West Ham for their history of wonderful ball playing football. I could never understand why you lot ever employed a long ball manager. We got rid of him as soon as he tried to adopt that at the Toon he buggered our team up and it took us three years to fully recover from the damage he inflicted. Good luck to the Hammers hope you finish above Blunderland.

  • Andrew says:

I think that if most players were offered the opportunity to play for a club in a relegation battle and a club fighting for a Champions League place they would choose the latter. They owe nothing to either club and will always look after number one.

The frustration comes if you start to believe what you read, either in the papers or on Twitter I’m afraid. Personally, I pay no attention until I see a player walk onto the pitch in the Claret and Blue. If you are convinced by a story or tweet that a player is coming and then they don’t, you feel angry or let down by the club or manager, when actually if was never guaranteed in the first place.

I know it’s really hard because transfer banter is incredibly addictive, but my advice is ignore it. If you really can’t, try and avoid the negative blame game and accept the January window for what it is. And if you want to blame anyone, blame the agents.

    COYI!

  • Spyinthesky says:

Did anyone notice this article did anything but explain why it fell through?

    • ed says:

because everton stuck their dirty scouse noses in thats why.. can happen to any team.. unfortunately it was ours.. no player is officially ours until they sign on the dotted line , regardless of permits and medicals

      • teddybard says:

Sad though to see that Everton
are now as scummy as their Scouser Bretheren
I used to think of Kenwright and his men as reasonable sadly not
        any longer

        • kip says:

Fuckin to right mate thats twice now the thieving scouse benefit st pricks have donethis ihopethe lanky prick breaks his fuckin legs inhis first game.martinez speaks about loyalty and conduct but he,s full ofshit I, msick ofit ive even cancelled my sky sports l hope we dogo down I, mthat angry

        • Pablobrown says:

Do me a favour, you want Everton to consider how signing Traore might effect West Ham? Would West Ham pull out of a deal if the shoe was on the other foot? Would they fuck. It’s a dog eat dog world, stop your bitching.I can understand your frustration, but it’s Allardyce’s fault that the Hammers are unable to attract a decent striker not Martinez’s.

  • wolfie says:

So where was the explanation then ? Can u really blame the fellah ? Avram Allardyce prob told him he would be playing only as AC’s no.2.
Look at it from Traore’s point of view: play for a side near top of Prem playing exciting,on the floor football for a young, modern thinking manager or play for us ?
    Hmmm.

    • ed says:

everton play with one forward aswel dont forget.. he will be playing second fiddle to Lukaku so that makes no sense ! if he came to us he would start every game until Carroll reaches full fitness which could take up to 5 -6 weeks ! And even then there’s no guarantee Carroll would kick him out of the starting 11 ! He’s an idiot for signing for them, simple as that

  • Billie boy says:

We’re running out of games, were running out of patience and your right Wolfe who in their right mind would want to come to us the way were playing. The hole just gets bigger and bigger. On the bright side I won a £25 on the lottery

  • si says:

Scouse wankers alwasy thieving I hope the lanky streak ofpiss breaks his leg on his first game . No fuckin loyalty I, msick of it martinez is a fuking little mincy twat I, d love to meet him

  • mc hammer says:

GET RID OF HIM SACK HIM!!!!!!! anyone who wants him to stay doesnt know enough about football and care enough about this club.

    • B06M says:

So mc hammer, if sacked who would replace Bug Sam? and what could they do differently with limited resources.
Wham fans alway ask for a big signing. Which we got in Andy Carroll, but spending most of out funds on one player was a gamble that hasn’t worked out so far this season. So who could do better at West Ham with over half the season gone?

  • mc hammer says:

in fact if im starting to feel as tho the likes of gold, sullivan, brady and allardyce are trying to get us relegated. its beyond a joke.

  • the swindon hammer says:

if the two davids ever read here I have a question for them why did you put this clown on such ridiculous wages that now we are stuck with mr 451 for the duration dident you learn a thing from the grant debacle and as for Johnson he would not get in my sunday side if you truly are fans dig deep and sack fatty before he takes us to the point of no return!!!!!!

    • Billie boy says:

If you look at Sam Alladyces record from 1994-2011 it’s genuinely not been bad. However since then it’s been slowly going down hill. He gets no help from Pinky & Perky who seem to have very deep pockets, theire’s always an excuse as soon as we have a potential decent player on the radar why they won’t be joining us. Pinky & Perky should sell the club and maybe, just maybe we will get someone who is committed to getting the club back to where we should be and playing the right kind of football, we true supporters deserve better than this COYI

  • Frustrated Hammer says:

Funny how Martinez is praised for his on the floor passing football yet requires a 6ft8″ striker to partner his already 6ft4″ striker.

Cant blame him for choosing Everton though, Champions League or Relegation battle? Easy choice!!
