Concerns over Ravel Morrison

Ravel Morrison celebrating against Norwich CityI’ve got to get this off my chest – and I don’t think it’s going to be a popular rant for West Ham fans to read – I’m actually getting annoyed at Ravel Morrison.

Morrison may have all of the tricks and flicks that make him able to get past players, but it’s no good if he hasn’t got the end product to go with it. Time after time against Sunderland I watched him amaze the crowd with his skills, dancing past the Black Cats, but he never had the finishing pass or shot accuracy to really make them pay. It was so frustrating to watch, and he’s starting to remind me of Ricardo Vaz Te last season when he was desperate to impress.

There’s also his attitude – although it has improved massively since his time at Manchester United, there are still flash points that really make me worry. He got a yellow for pushing Joel Ward in the face after our 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, which should really have been a red card. That and his recent bust-up with Wilfried Zaha makes me think that if players taunt him, he will rise to it and West Ham will pay the price. Mark Noble has admitted that all of the players are frustrated, but Morrison is the only one that really concerns me when it comes to lashing out.

I may just be being overly harsh because of where we are the in the table, but I don’t think we have any room for selfish players at the moment – we need to pull together as a team. What do you think? Leave a comment or tweet me at @alwaysintune.

Yea lets put in all those other amazing players we have in his place instead, oh hang on wait……… Ravel Morrison is the most talented individual we have had at west ham since the Cole, Carrick and Ferdinand era and yes he’s going to make mistakes but he’s still learning! In an ideal world we would blood him in slower but at the moment he’s one of our best performers and we need him as there is little or no creativity anywhere else in our team!
The fans need to get behind him and the team and stop all the negitivity that is rife around the club at the moment, it helps nobody! Ravel is our future and we need to do everything we can to hold on to him and our best players and not flog them off to spurs as per usual! COYI!

Most naturally gifted player in our team and he’s being slated, shall we just play 11 matt taylors?

  • Jimmy says:

    Fishing trip.

  • Jake says:

Dead on jimmy. Think of something decent to write Katherine.
20 and you expect him to be a complete footballer. Not even you are that dim-witted.

  • Dave says:

Personally I think he is gifted yes but he holds on to the ball to long, several times at Sunderland I found myself listening to fans shouting at him because he did one trick too many and didn’t release the pass at the right time but BFS doesn’t play him in the right position for him to go and attack defences, now who would you rather run at opposition defences, Ravel Morrison or Kevin ‘family bucket’ Nolan? Its BFS fault he hasn’t scored more he doesn’t play him to his strengths instead he plays a player who’s legs have clearly gone a couple of months ago and his frustration is born out of these tactical woes, by the way I can see this and I have just gone 16. Something to think about BFS.

Hes still a kid Katherine. Brilliant raw talent that need nurturing and encouraging. Lets not do what Chelsea did with Joey Cole and ruin his natural instincts, making him track back and play deep. Guys like Morrision need free reign to work magic IN ATTACKING AREAs SAM !!! Teams should be built to support and make allowances for kids like him. Of course he will make wrong decisions, who doesn’t, but how refreshing to see someone actually dribble with the ball…losing it or not !

mate u need to get out more .. look whos his playin with diame who aint a passer unless he has no where to go or just about to lose it slow arse noble who takes half hour to pass or huts a longon and javis who only nos how to run to the wing and swing a cross aimed at no body or joe cole whos not on the same leve if he was at arsenal swansea liverpool and others were they pass and move!! . we were ashambles the other day i think he fought he had to do it on his own because no one else even look interested lets face facts if he was in the sunderland team we would of lost

  • Michael says:

He failed the audition last Saturday – there was plenty of flashy moves, step-overs and body swerves but no end product. Time after time he was shrugged off the ball by stronger, more experienced Sunderland players. He looked lightweight – with potential yes – but just lightweight!

Well it seems you were right about it not being a popular rant! But I think you’re right about the Sunderland game – a couple of times Rav was playing some lovely football but seems to have caught forgotten-how-to-attack-itis from the rest of the team……BFS should be playing him further up. The manager has to be responsible for the team formation and tactics. Even worse was when Tomkins ran the length of the pitch with the ball only for the rest of the team to hang back in disbelief – OMG one of our players has attacked, and has taken less than 15 mins to get up the other end of the pitch, what on earth should we do? My worry is that playing the BFS way will ruin Rav’s natural abilty – or that he’ll be off in the summer. And yes he still has a bit of a temper problem, let’s hope he’s being taught/advised to keep it under control for his own good as well as ours. 20 isn’t all that young in other walks of life, why should footballers be made allowance for when they’re so lucky and pampered……? I do think he’s got the potential to be a brilliant player and hope he can do that at WH.

His movement vision and passing is streets ahead of anything we have.he looks fresh always wanting the ball and he doesent like to lose.our play is a laboured at times with no real thrust .i love nobes but he needs to form a partnership with ravel in the middle.they r both good enough to pass and move and create chances through the middle rather than constantly trying to get the ball wide all the time.as a 20 year old in a struggling team hes more than holding his own.i hope we get a few youngsters in the team tomorrow, turgott ,moncur ,chambers and elliot lee all deserve a chance.coyi

  • Luke pain says:

Is this fella serious. The other 10 on the pitch are the problem , Morrison needs better players to play with , he could play for a top team already .The likes of Nolan o brien Jarvis etc are not on his wavelength .Be grateful we have him the only bit of real quality we have. Our slow build up play makes him look bad .He is a player that excels on the break .With players like Nolan and noble( slowest 2 in the prem fact) hehas no chance.

  • Deano says:

BFS is playing him out of position.
Morrison is a future England regular
He can’t do it all when the rest of the team aren’t pulling their weight

  • JMan43 says:

I am not sure what you have been sniffing but Morrison has been the one bright spot in an otherwise completely shite season to date. In his first season as a starter he has shown that he has all the ability to go right to the top and that needs to be nurtured. I just hope we can get our act together so we don’t lose him.

  • Eastender says:

Over simplification guys! Ravel is not making the most of his opportunities in the box regardless of how well or not his team mates are playing. When you get that close you have to have a go and at least work the keeper

  • Peter Simon says:

He’s still a young player, probably two or three years from the finished article. The only reason we’re expecting so much from him now is that we need goals desperately from somewhere with so few attacking options. Katherine, have you ever played football at a really high level (any level)? I don’t know why I bother responding to these inane articles.

  • Bob says:

To much hype about Morrison but the boy is neverless good, problem is the below average championship players we have along with the sad formation week in week out, yes we have kept clean sheets sam but you will with 11 in defence and yes sam were not scoring goals but what do you expect with maiga and Cole. Oh and if you think Carroll coming back will save us, think again! Joe Cole on the bench along with Jarvis is criminal.

  • Tony Stern says:

The answer to our striker problem is staring right in BFS face. Play Morrison up front ala Lionel Messi. Get the ball into his feet, fast and let him bang in the goals which we know he is capable of. We have a dearth of midfield players that can fill in for Morrison (albeit not as creative) and then suddenly the dynamic of our side is transformed. Opposing defenders crap themselves when faced with a skillful player running at them with pace, he would terrorize defenders. sadly I feel I will be correct in my assumption when a forward (pardon the pun) thinking manager from a top six club has him in their team.

  • hammered says:

another pointless article ,looking for a response well heres one put ya glasses on and watch the game comparing him to vaz te oh dear,he has class and the end product he cant run through brick walls ,and hes not the problem it was miaga standing still and not giving him options, imagine a player like defoe who makes runs and movement,so there you have it stick to making cakes

  • Alan says:

The lads got undoubted skill. I would however like him to be more direct and running at defenders into the box rather than going sideways. Defenders will find him impossible to deal with as long as hes deployed in the right position in the hole.

  • woodcroft says:

I think you’re all over-reacting. Katherine makes a couple of valid points. Firstly he held on to the ball too often vs Sunderland, allowing them to double and at times triple team him off the ball. But he’ll learn that mixing in the early pass into his game will force defenders to stand off him, which will make it easier for him to attack them. The second point was that he has shown moments of petulance this season. And that kind of selfish behaviour can hurt the team. That has happened. But again, (hopefully) he’ll learn to control that aspect of his personality.
Two valid points, but I’m not worried. I think the owners know he’s the prize asset and he’ll be nurtured correctly.
But then, I believed the same things about Joe Cole…
