West Ham would like to thank Liverpool

Stewart DowningStewart Downing…it’s no secret this fella will soon be a Hammer and there are contrasting reactions to our most recent bit of business with Liverpool.

Some Liverpool fans (without much sense in my humble opinion) are trying to spin it that West Ham have come along and rescued them from a player who didn’t do much to convince the natives during his time at Anfield; whereas people who can look at a transfer rationally can see that West Ham are picking up a player who went for 20 million two years ago for virtually a quarter of the price.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

It’s no secret why we’ve picked up Downing despite his lack of form, assists and goals over past couple of seasons; it’s to get the best out of Andy Carroll. Think about it Matt Jarvis and Downing on the wings providing the kind of service that Carroll thrives on, the kind of service that will hopefully see our big Geordie notch 15 plus goals this season.

The Stewart Downing of Middlesbrough and Aston Villa was a class act; assists, goals and a general nuisance to Premier League full-backs with his quick and direct style of play. He never warranted a £20 million price-tag and as with Andy Carroll it weighed him down, the weight, scrutiny and responsibility that comes with such a tag is like a noose round the neck to those who aren’t truly worth such vast sums. In my humble opinion had Carroll and Downing gone to Liverpool at 10 million a pop it could well have been so different for them up on Merseyside, more time to adapt, less pressure etc.

‘King’ Kenny Dalglish wasted tonnes of money during his last reign at Anfield and when Brendan Rodgers replaced him he didn’t fancy Dalglish’s charges much (apart from Luis Suarez of course) and has systematically gone about moving them on…now we at West Ham have taken advantage of this in a superb fashion by getting the likes of Joe Cole, Andy Carroll and now Stewart Downing for comfortably less than what Liverpool paid for them. (Downing and Carroll were signed for a combined fee by Liverpool of around 55 million; we’ve picked them up only a couple of years later for around 20 million) so thanks ‘king’ Kenny and God bless Liverpool’s ridiculous spending, it’s saving us millions!

I’ve written it before and by God I’m going to write again; we have a strong squad, the majority of which is English and apart from a quality stand in for Andy Carroll our squad is complete, our options are fantastic and I really feel we can win something this season.

In my humble opinion the move from Liverpool to West Ham isn’t really that much of a step down these days, they’re no longer the force they were and we’re very much an emerging one.

Any fan of ANY sport that doesn’t realize that a change of scenary, with some new players , And under a different coach can be EXACTLY what a player needs to find his stride…should stop watching said sport all together, take their biased opinion…. And SHOVE IT

I agree the squad is strong but only slightly stronger than last term whereas Villa,Norwich,Swansea,Saints & WBA have all recruited more than we have,a top ten finish again would be quite an achievement bearing in mind the above

Why are Liverpool fans coming onto a west ham website…?? Truth is Liverpool have had an absolute mare of late by paying way too much for players! They keep kidding themselves they deserve to win things but truth is they are so far behind the likes of Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal it’s depressing for them.
I actually think they ate in the chasing pack with Spurs, Everton and maybe Swansea with the mighty Hammers not the far behind!!! Onward and upwards and chin up to the scouters…!!!!

As to Liverpool…they don’t want Carroll, Cole or Downing and it seems Suarez doesn’t want them.
