Alou Diarra or Scott Parker?

|

Alou DiarraWith news circulating these past few days; that Tottenham Hotspurs’ Scott Parker could make a return to Upton Park, is this news that should excite many West Ham fans?

Leaving back in 2011, Parker was a hero for West Ham, known for his extraordinary work rate and desire. Although some fans have voiced their displeasure at the return of Scott after the player chose to join rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a controversial move. Personally I don’t hold any resentment towards Parker for leaving, he isn’t getting any younger and in order to maintain his England spot; it was inevitable he would have to leave for a Premier League side.

The first things that springs to mind on Scott returning is quite simply, is he needed? The midfield area is currently very strong and we have improved since Parker departed.

This brings me to Alou Diarra, after a controversial first season in England; it was conceivable that he would leave after fallout with the club; as the player felt he wasn’t given the opportunity to prove himself, the public outburst saw Alou sent to France for the rest of the season. With many speculating on where he’s future would be come September. Recently Diarra stated his desire to fight for his place at West Ham and prove any doubters wrong, so it would appear that West Ham will retain the services of the French international.

This is good news regarding Diarra, a player with much experience domestically and internationally; he has much still to offer.

If Parker does indeed return, it would seem that a battle would take place between Diarra and Parker for a first team spot, a couple of years back Scott would have made the first team; no problem-but that isn’t the case anymore. Since leaving he has struggled with injuries and lost the England spot he worked so hard to gain.

Parker is now a fringe player at Spurs and looks set to leave, due to wages being high I say we take a miss on Scott Parker and allow Alou Diarra the chance he so desperately wants.

So far this pre-season Diarra has looked sharp and ready for action and if exploited he could prove to be an asset to the team.

Why not sign Alou Gobi…not too spicy though…Thanks!

  • Hungrier still says:

West Ham are Tottenham’s rivals in what sense? Rivals for the Top 4? I am not sure many Spurs fans would consider West Ham as rivals. Surely West Ham’s aspirations are to consolidate mid-table and Spurs to break the top 4…rivals? No.

  • PaulFake says:

    Alou Diarra all day

  • Saboteur says:

Alou Diarra all day, has to be!!

  • Pete says:

not worth the wages anymore, get some games out of Alou. use the extra cash on the forward line.

  • bubbles says:

Alou Diarra every time . Who gives a toss what Tottenhmm are doing . When the diver goes they will be back where they belong …….hisss

  • Pat says:

West ham are spurs rivals????? Bahahaha good joke.

  • Hungrier still says:

@Bubbles – Unfortunately Bubbles, it may take more than the “diver” leaving to RM for Spurs and West Ham to be slugging it out for mid-table supremacy…they still have a mighty fine squad and if Bale is gone, imagine what they could do with that 85 million pounds? Yep, sadly, West Ham are not likely to be considered rivals for some considerable time yet…sorry mate but that is the harsh reality

  • emmet o boyle says:

Diarra for me . give him a chance. Parker was a truly fine player for Westham but he left us when we went down so thanks for the memories Scotty but stay with Tottenham.

  • jeff says:

By rivals, he means London rivals. Similar to arsenal spurs rivalry although there’s are bigger.

not positional rivalry but just because they are two clubs very near one another.

    but yeah diarra

  • leso says:

Er, not really needed a midfielder to be honest. Now we got donkey, sorry Carrol all balls will go long. All we need is nine defenders when we hav’nt got the ball to get it back, lol.

  • Lordemlyn says:

Rival. In competition with. Everyone starts at 0 points. Rivals. Typical spurs getting above themselves.

    • Joe says:

Lordemlyn, how you mean ‘getting above themselves’?

You think Tottenham shouldn’t be looking to finish in the top 4 next season? Look at their recent record. Currently the 5th best team in the land as proved by last term.

Tell me, would you say Liverpool were getting above their station for expecting to finish above Cardiff?

West Ham will have a great season to finish top half given the strength of the league and improvements being made at Saints, Norwich and Swansea. Toon and Villa won’t have such poor seasons either.
Imagine Tottenham finishing 10th…AVB would be sacked instantly.

The two clubs are on different levels

  • Ghostofbobbymoore says:

Id take parker back in a shot. Big sam loves his veteran players and his gritty players so scott fits the bill. Can’t see us doing mucg better to be honest

  • Joe says:

Jeff, Tottenham and Arsenal are very much positional rivals thesedays and have been for a few seasons now

  • Spen55 says:

Not more about bloody Parker. He is history for gods sake. Move on !!!!!!! There are far better younger players on the market. PLEASE no more articles about him, its tiresome.

  • Ironforlife says:

Parker back? Yes please! There is nothing wrong with competition for places but I couldn’t see us signing him on his wages at his age so I agree, give Diarra a go! I do wish people would stop being so negative about our style if football. I’m bored of getting beat 3-2 or letting 2 goal leads slip! Walking down Greem Street Saturday evening saying how did we not win that game?! How did we let that slip away?! Big Sam has finally brought stability to West Ham and has had a great first 2 years!
I can’t wait to get in that Olympic Stadium and watch West Ham compete at the highest level! We deserve it! COYI!

    • razor says:

yep tired of watching greenwood lyall and h bring in players like di canio now we can get a neck brace and talk about how Sam wins matches playing boring football and only one way which keeps us up and whoops doesn’t sell season tickets. used to have a waiting list now they call you and ask

  • The Cat says:

What’s more tiresome than the recent talk/prospect of Parker coming back???
For the record, we don’t really need the problems that someone of Parker’s age and experience would bring to our strongest area, midfield as he would surely EXPECT to play regularly which could be unsettling for the midfielder’s we already have & hence the team.

    What’s more tiresome???
All these anti Big Sam hoofball idiots who constantly bang on about tactics they haven’t the first clue about. Ignorance seems to be bliss and a comfortable place for many! The club won’t miss those that want to talk trash or live in the past!

  • Geoff says:

How many returnees have gone on to better their previous spells? Joe Cole?Yossi Benayoun? Don Hutchison? Tony Cottee? Shaka Hislop? James Collins? There’s every chance that Parker will not be able to perform at his previous levels for WH, let alone improve. Only question that then remains is whether that level, whatever is it, better than we currently have? In Diame? No. In Diarra? Don’t know. In Noble? Possibly. Given returnee track records, if it was me I wouldn’t chance it unless fee & salary were stupidly low.

  • lawrence B says:

    Keep Diarra, dont sign Parker.
Parker was the stand out player in a team that finished 17th, then 20th in consecutive seasons.
Now he’s 32/33, and getting more injuries.
Wouldnt be an improvement on Noble now, so in my opinion would be a very pointless signing.

  • Del rod says:

Why bring parker back , would have like to have seen rob hall & ravel Morrison given a chance first .Cant blame hall for walking out when big Sam keeps going for 30plus players who keep getting injured !!!!!! . If we signing the wrong type of young players that can’t brake into the first team change the system

    • The Cat says:

Del, Rob Hall walked out of his own accord. I would’ve liked him to stay also but he is in a hurry and it’s his choice. As for trying to tie Ravel Morrison in with the general theme of Big Sam not giving youth a chance, you can’t be aware of our pre-season? where Ravel played a big part of our pre-season and it looks like he is NOT going back out on loan, instead staying with the first team & probably making his debut.

IF Big Sam was making a mess of West Ham I could understand your grievances but that is NOT the case. You may not have the benefit of having West Ham TV where you can listen in depth to what the coaches are doing, looking for and what they want out of the players. But if you did, you wouldn’t say what you’re saying.

Do your research and look a little deeper, to understand MORE!
