Kasper SchmeichelAs the end of a stable first season back in the Premier League is drawing to a close, the transfer rumours begin, and one that has been around for a while now is linking West Ham United with Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Although, our number 22 Jussi Jaaskelainen has indeed ended the season on a positive note, I, along with many Hammers feel that his age and his tendency to drop the ball means we should be looking for a new first choice ‘keeper for next season’s campaign. Names such as Anders Lindegaard and Brad Guzan have been thrown around lately, but the son of legendary Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter, is one that certainly excites me.

Kasper, formerly of Manchester City and Leeds United, has made a total of 92 appearances for the Foxes, the side he joined in 2011 for an unknown fee. The 26 year old stopper has caught the eye this season, with his performances helping Leicester into the play-off semi-finals and also earning him recognition in the Championship team of the season.

The number 1 stands at 6ft exactly and his comparison to his father has earnt him many admirers over the past few seasons. If Nigel Pearson manages to secure promotion to the heralded top flight with Leicester then maybe young Schmeichel will be inclined to stay put, but if not, considering he should be a reasonable price, I believe that he’d be a good bet to take over between the sticks next season.

I think Kasper has a lot to offer, but if we sign him Sam needs to give him some chances!

He will suit BFS as his clearances from his box can reach the opposition’s penalty area!!!

      Perpetuating myths???

I would never dream our own supporters would talk such nonsense!

Where are the stats that prove what your saying is fact?

      Think before you POST!

Im a Leicester fan, and I certainly hope this rumour isn’t true. Kasper is a class keeper, and I just hope if we do sell him we get a good price. Anything under £10m isnt enough

He’s already a good goalkeeper & at 26 he has many years ahead of him. His distribution is good which we’ve not had from a ‘keeper since I can’t remember!

We need to spend decent money. Some mentioned are not up to it! I don’t want someone who isn’t good enough for a shit team like Villa, or Uniteds number 2!

With a move to the new stadium, which I don’t want but must accept, we have to sign better quality & get rid of some of the average ‘Championship’ players!

If its true maybe Sam is thinking of playing him as well as Jussi away from home to see if we can be more negative than this season!!! If we don’t buy 3 goal scorers with pace for next year we may as well not turn up away from home and just send a card with the points.

Good investment for the future but what concerns me more is the clear necessity for an out and out goal scorer, which west ham clearly need for next season
