Will West Ham Spend Wisely This Transfer Window?

Olympic-StadiumWith the Olympic Stadium only a few years down line until it’s covered in claret and blue and with a squad that certainly needs in influx of new talent. A question arises – can we afford to walk this yellow bricked road?

Securing the Olympic Stadium was certainly a win on many levels for the club and no doubt after a few seasons in our new home; we will start to see signs of the rewards that are destined to follow. As we all know though, in comparison to foreign billionaires, the two David’s have nothing (and they agree) as they still continue to voice their acceptance to a potential investor.

But just how much do we need an investor or can we rely on the current board to deliver the goods? I feel we don’t need the cash injection as such, but it would surely be welcomed with open arms, as long as their intentions are loyal to the club and the direction we are aspiring to go in.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

The money spent on getting the OS will be made back in no time (as well as profit) once we are playing games at the stadium. However, in the immediate future it’s clear money does need to be spent on the squad and both the David’s have expressed their intentions in doing so on this matter also.

David Sullivan stated: “We realise we have to buy better, spend more money. It’s a gradual process. It’ll take time to build the team.” Therefore the intentions of the club are clear, money will be spent and the squad will hopefully be improved in the keys areas.  He also added “We have a number of targets but it’s about spending wisely.” So I don’t doubt many fans will pray for better targets than the likes of Modibo Maiga and one of our biggest flops a few seasons back’ Savio Nserenko.

As we all know it’s always hard competing with the top clubs around the world for players, but it’s not always about finance, it can also be based on acting fast and being smart in the business dealings – just look at Newcastle United and Spurs.

West Ham United is a side that is full of fringe players; therefore if we can cast a few of these off to naïve sides with money in their pockets, we could make some funds available for a better quality player. Big Sam was quoted saying to Sky Sports, “I’m hoping only three or four out and maybe five in before next season, and that will make it a fantastic summer for me.” This sounds great to me, but unless the quality is better than we have, we should really re-consider our actions in the transfer market.

There are have been too many times in the past transfer windows we have wasted money, signing players just to add to the depth or for the sake of it. Although we have no big investment in the club to date yet, I do feel the two David’s will deliver and provide the funds for the club as they have done in the past. So right now we don’t need an injection of cash, but like I said, we would be mad to turn down such an opportunity if it came our way.
