Sam AllardyceWhilst Manchester United are clear favourites for their clash against Big Sam’s boys tomorrow, there are ample reasons to back West Ham to continue their fine form and will pose a much greater threat to United’s unbeaten away league run than Stoke did on Sunday.

Sir Alex’s men haven’t lost on the road in the Premier League since the 17th November when Anthony Pilkington’s header helped Norwich overcome the odds. Since then, Manchester United have brushed aside all those in their path on the way to another successful campaign – however, the Hammers will present a much trickier challenge.

Excluding their defeat against Chelsea in the FA Cup last month, the last time Manchester United looked uneasy on the road was back at Upton Park in January when two James Collins headers were minutes away from causing United’s shock exit from the competition. On that day, United struggled with the delivery of Joe Cole and the aerial ability of Collins and Carlton Cole.

Robin van Persie was their saviour that day but his goals have dried up somewhat since then with his penalty against Stoke his first United goal in 10 games.

Whilst Stoke looked weak and lacking in confidence, West Ham will be anything but with the Upton Park faithful on their side and a run of decent results behind them and will have an in-form Andy Carroll to spearhead what will be a physical encounter.

West Ham proved on more than one occasion this season they’re able to give the big boys plenty of food for thought following their emphatic 3-1 win over Chelsea and good displays against Liverpool and Tottenham. Despite losing those two latter mentioned games, the home form of the Hammers has been imperative to their inevitable survival this season only losing 4 at the Boleyn to date.

Other evidence for a possible upset comes in the form of a strong (in comparison!) record against Sir Alex. The Hammers have proved to be somewhat of a bogey team for United in the past and have recorded some memorable victories, most notably recording a double over them in 2006/2007 and then taking all three points the following season. In fact, West Ham can boast a higher win percentage (44.83%) to Manchester United’s (24.14%) at home.

Whilst Sir Alex will be preparing and bracing his side for a physical competition I feel West Ham’s home peformances, current form and recent results against Manchester United could make them a coupon buster tomorrow evening.

why not? If Big Sam had the stones to play Carlton alongside Big Andy up front, manure couldn’t cope.
