West Ham’s ‘Hammer Of The Year’ Contenders

Jussi JaaskelainenJussi Jaaskelainen – Jussi has made the highest number of saves in the Premier League. Some fans were dubious when he signed for us but I’ve been really impressed, and he’s played a massive part in us securing survival.

Also going to go a bit crazy and nominate our whole defence – I think they’ve been brilliant and I couldn’t pick between them.

Winston Reid – Reido has been absolutely solid in the back 4, and he took over the captaincy when Nolan was injured. He’s a clear leader in the back four and has been consistently brilliant.

James Collins – James has popped up with a few useful goals this season, as well as excelling in his more traditional role.  Ginge may have taken the best looking West Ham player’s place, but with performances like he gives I can’t even hold it against him.

Guy Demel – Demel looks like he’s running on fast forward compared to last season. He’s been an intimidating defender and has made surging runs up the wings to help the team push forward.

O’Brien – When Joey O’Brien signed for us, I didn’t expect a massive amount. He has far exceeded my, and I think most fans, expectations. He’s one of the first players I look for on the team sheet now. I love that he’s not afraid to have a go up front as well, which has seen him score his first ever Premier League goal this campaign.

Andy Carroll – What can I say? This man has scared defenders left right and centre. He may have been beaten in Premier League goals by his pal Kevin Nolan, but he’s been a huge presence for us and has been a catalyst in our squad this campaign. I hope we can sort out a deal with Liverpool to keep him at Upton Park.

Mohamed Diame – This midfield maestro has surely been the permanent signing of the season. He was a super sub against Chelsea with us coming back to win 3-1, and the midfield looks much more fluid and attack minded with him in it. I’ve been really impressed with him, especially as we got him on a free!

Emanuel Pogatetz – Just me then? Oh, ok.

It’s a tough one but I’m going for Andy Carroll purely on the fact that he has given 100% every game he’s played and he has given us something we have been missing for years!
Also I want him to have it this year as we may not have the opportunity to vote for him next year!! I hope we do…..

DIAME DIAME DIAME DIAME DIAME DIAME

  • Tonka says:

Obviously Winston Reid, although Noble ran him close in the first half of the season and Collins in the second. Diame would have been a contender if he hadn’t missed that big chunk of the middle of the season.

Reid has been the consistent outstanding performer throughout the season.

I am going to go with finland’s number 1. JUSSI

  • Jimmy says:

Crikey, only Tonka is talking sense here . Winston Reid will win it. Runner up between Noble, Collins, Diame and Carroll

  • James says:

Joey O’Brien or Reid. Two most consistent performers all season. Diame and Carroll have had a massive impact and Collins and Noble have produced the solid form that you expect from them really and any would be worthy winners.

jaaskelainen! i sincerely hope we bring a new number 1, jussi may have had a couple of good games shot stopping wise but generally he just seems to be too slow and immobile, Carroll player of season for me, can you imagine if we had cole as our main striker all season? coca cola anyone? love to see big andy stay but if not spend some big money on a good player please

  • Eyetie says:

No brainer for me,Reid, and he will get much better.

I would say ,andt Carroll, hope he is at upton park next season, as a westham player, permanat , and reidy. Oy jussi

  • Simon says:

If anyone other than Reid wins its an absolute disgrace. But it’s a supporters vote and I wouldn’t put anything past out fans, afterall Noble won it last year just because he’s a west ham fan and he can take penalties.

    My top 3: 1)Reid….by a long way! 2) Joey O’brien…..so consistent. 3) Diame…..when he’s on he’s unreal.

  • Peter Howard says:

Reid, by a mile. Lets hope we can keep him.

  • Rhys Lloyd says:

James Collins- Gotta love the Ginge! How many time has he put his head in the way? Few mistakes, but allround best in my opinion!

  • Hugh Bevan says:

I’m sorry but Carroll is nowhere near HOTY standard this season. 3 good games recently don’t suddenly make him HOTY!
Collins has had a good 2nd half of the season but he single handedly lost us 3 games early on, Winston has been consistently good, Collins hasn’t.
Jussi’s 2nd half of the season has been outstanding, looked shaky at the start but wouldn’t be annoyed if he won but for me it’s between Diame and Reid. They are the only 2 that should really be in the conversation for me.

  • Swissiron says:

    gotta be reid
