West Ham Fans Had Every Right To React The Way They Did

|

parker2So once again I find myself in the depths of despair that is watching live European football, pretty confident that at this time next year, I will not be watching my beloved Hammers in Europe. It’s not all bad though, I’m also confident that after Saturday’s performance we won’t be playing Championship football. The point that I’ve taken from this game that got me thinking ISN’T how Joey O’Brien could easily improve either Man United or Real Madrid just by taking a full-back berth, no, it’s the way the modern game reacts to the fans in the stands.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Us West Ham fans have taken a lot of grief over the last week for booing Scott Parker, something Manchester United fans are doing to Cristiano Ronaldo as I type this (or ‘were doing’ depending on when this gets published). Will the wonderful, passionate, media-darling Manchester United fans get the same abuse that the ‘vociferous, arrogant’ West Ham fans got? Hopefully not; our fans’ ‘treatment’ of Scott Parker (albeit a minority of fans) I believe only made headlines because of our former midfielder’s reaction:

‘I didn’t expect the West Ham fans to boo me, and obviously it was a little bit disappointing’

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s either right or wrong to have booed him, but that statement makes Parker look both foolish and hard done by. Maybe the West Ham fans that booed him ‘didn’t expect’ Scott to leave for another club? Maybe they were a ‘little disappointed’ that he left? Especially when you consider that Rob Green stayed for another season, Carlton Cole took a pay-cut and Mark Noble battled tirelessly in the West Ham midfield. Yes, Parker no doubt had England ambitions but I can’t help but believe that the other three players also did.

We, the fans, pay our money to watch our team play. It doesn’t end at match tickets. Drink, travel, dodgy burger and uncomfortable replica shirts all add up. When you think that Parker earns more a week than a lot, if not all, of us earn a year, then it’s very difficult to see him as the victim he’s portraying himself as. If the remarks and opinions of supporters steer clear of racism and other distasteful or offensive comments then it’s wrong to censor the fans. All seater stadia have sucked a lot of the atmosphere out of the game. If we pander to players complaining about the supporters, it won’t be long before we’re sat in silence.

In closing, I’d like to point out that I liked Parker a lot during his West Ham spell. He played the game with passion, consistently giving his all. The fact he is a gentleman is why he has received so much sympathy whilst airing his grievances. Our fans were already under the microscope for the unacceptable scenes at White Hart Lane in late November and as much as I respect Parker, I feel that his response to being booed was an over-reaction.

Peace out

Smudgy

If fans want to boo a player thats their choice. Ronaldo and Utd fans was bad example though.
The booing was only tongue in cheek, there is a video somewhere showing the Utd fans reaction when the Madrid team sheet was read, He got a massive cheer and ovation.

Parker tried his utmost to keep West Ham in the Premiership, and if he had he would have stayed with them. As it was he had a chance to play for England which he would not have had if he’d played in the Championship. Of course he would leave, and so would any fan who booed him if they were fortunate enough to be in that position. Should he sacrifice his England career for his fourth club after Charlton, Chelsea and Newcastle? Putting club loyalty aside for a moment, what makes West Ham any different?

He went to Spurs? Well he is a life long Spurs fan. If you take the logic that he should not play for Spurs as he had played for West Ham then really he should never have played for West Ham in the first place as his boyhood club was Spurs. West Ham fans are not unique in being ungrateful, and they have the right to boo who they wish, but when he says he didn’t deserve it he is correct.

    • Dave says:

RUBBISH! Parker deserved all the boos and should have got more.

He stopped playing for us before he joined Spurs just the same way as Ince stopped playing before he joined Man United.

Parker was on the pitch against Watford but he was totally non commital. Parker also blamed West Ham for being unfit when he joined Spurs. Perhaps if he had shown more effort he would have been fit when he left.

      • IAN says:

Dave, I couldn’t disagree with you more. Scott Parker gave his all for West Ham and had every right to leave when he did. The surprising thing was that more clubs didn’t bid for him.

What was also disappointing was that neither the press nor Scott Parker made mention of the many fans in the Alpari stand, myself included, who stood up and applauded Scotty Parker as he left the field.

      • Anonymous says:

Couldn’t agree more. Watford was disgraceful behaviour. As was Doncaster away. He’s in the same box as Ince and Defoe. He was in cahoots with Redknapp’s Tottscum about forcing a move before we were relegated. Shut up Spuds fans. This praise for Parker coming from the mob who constantly declared they didn’t think he was good enough when he was at West Ham? Glad you lemons found each other

      • andy brown says:

utter crap pal scott parker ran himself ragged trying to keep us up shame several others dident do the same and maybe we might have avoided the drop i certainly dont blame him for moving

  • Shevyiddo says:

OMG!How on earth is that an over reaction? “I didn’t expect the West Ham fans to boo me,obviously that was a little disappointing” That my friend is merely reaction and it was the first time he’s played you since he put in a player of the year performance for yous lot two years ago! Oh and concerning his England ambitions he was actually good enough for a start and surely you recognise it’s gonna put the mockers on it if he’s playing in the Championship or waiting until he’s thirty bloody two? Mate, have you lot really got that little to write about. Why are you not concentrating on avoiding relegation again rather than worrying about Spurs players and really REALLY trivial bow locks.I swear it was such a nothing comment yet you have convinced your strange self that it was a mad over reaction.Look at his choice of words again and rethink what you are banging on about.”..a little disappointing” You lot really should start sending your kids to school to avoid them turning out like yourself mate.Very unfair in them!

    • Dave says:

Beeter they turn out like him than turn out a Spurs fan and be hated everywhere.

    • Anonymous says:

Wow talking about people’s kids! You need a slap for that one. It’s very unfair “on” them not “in” them. Keep on practicing you’ll grasp English one day. Nice of you to sign off like the div you are.

  • grayster says:

God, why are we dragging this up again. It was much debated after the match.

Parker worked his nuts off for us. Did us a favour on his transfer request as we couldn’t afford his wages. Wanted to try and keep playing for England. Yes he went to Spuds. So if that annoys you don’t clap him (like we do for most returning hard work players). But booing him. That was total bollocks. Bunch of cunts started it and many got carried away by the moment (playing Spurs on Moore’s anniversary).

Made us look like a load of wankers. I was just embarrassed about how thick some fans are as they don’t understand how football works now. Do you really expect the club to show the player any loyalty now – cos they fucking don’t. So it works both ways.

What a bunch of nobs. Expect Parker to offer to take a 70% pay cut, play in championship, not get England cap again – when he has just career peaked (late on). Jog on you fucking idiots. We should still be thankful to him – the one man in a squad who actually did work for West Ham.

    • Anonymous says:

Zzzzz what a load of shit. Parker is a mercenary and you’re the nob. Defoe worked pretty dmmn hard to keep west ham up in 2003. Ince worked pretty hard too before he made the mistake of popping on the United jersey. Think it’s you that’s missing how football works chap. Clubs don’t show loyalty? Do you even know how much Parker creamed out of West Ham when he signed the new contract? A fucking fortune. Wage parity with Dyer!! Million pound bonus. Sam Allardyce got that figure for getting the whole club promoted. Parker got paid to do…wait for it… His JOB. Then he refused to honour a handful of matches whilst waiting to join Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham. The bloke who stitched up a true legend then fucked off with half the England team.

Did you go Watford away? Did you go Doncaster away? You bet your bollocks you didn’t otherwise you’d never have wrote that. He shouldn’t have signed a long term deal with a massive bonus only to leave it for an over the barrel dog move. We spent the first 5 matches last season with 10 men & no holding midfielder. At least Defoe was straight about leaving from the jump. As was Demba Ba.

So don’t call those that see it that way idiots. Where you pulled that pie in the sky figure of a 70% wage cut from is anyone’s guess. He was not only contracted to about 85k pw but the owners wanted to keep him there on it. He consulted with Redknapp about a move to Spuds BEFORE relegation so get your facts straight. Are you even a West Ham fan, you sound like Tottenham in disguise…. ? You don’t slag off your own fans for showing dislike to a journeyman player. Get a grip

    • Anonymous says:

Oh I get it… You’re Parker’s agent! You sound like his PR machine

  • dave@spurs says:

Booing someone who bust a gut trying to keep you lot in the prem, just goes to show you are Millwall in disguise, lets hope you get what you deserve, relegation is still on the cards, i hope you go down and harry stays up.

  • Ron says:

Pretty sure rob green mark noble and Carlton coke didn’t have a chance compared to Parker for getting into the England at that time

  • Spence55 says:

Ive got some breaking news for West ham fans…PARKER HAS GONE….HE NO LONGER PLAYS FOR US…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SHUT THE **** UP ABOUT PARKER…. NO ONE CARES ANYMORE!!!!!!

  • Stoney says:

What an thoroughly immature point of view. Parker shouldn’t be offended by anything because he’s got lots of money. He was offended because he gave his all for west ham and all the inconstant and capricious fans could give him was abuse. If you can’t see this as a stupid thing to do then you’re even more stupid than the fans that booed. One more thing. The other players mentioned. Cole, Noble and Green. How are their England careers going? Oh yes, absolutely nowhere. How they were ever considered for England in the first place is a mystery. Parker has gone on to be named England player of the year and captained his country. Accolades that endorse his actions and further condemn the ignorant irons’ fans.

      Fuck off you tool

    • AVB lol says:

Did you see Modric the other day scoring for Madrid. He just wanted to leave to better himself at a much better team. You tw*ts were very understanding then (that’s sarcasm for any thick muggy Spurs fans benefit).
Any Spurs fan coming on a hammers site to comment on Parker should think about why they haven’t got a full enough life lol. How muggy are you???!?!?

      • Anonymous says:

Hahaha. Spuds fans are such shitstains. Two Bob one man band in nosebleed territory.

  • Trevor says:

The bottom line is that Scott Parker is sorely missed by most West Ham fans. The abuse wouldn’t have happened if he’d gone to say, Liverpool instead of the Spuds.

    • Anonymous says:

Rather have Diamé any day of the week. No joke. Parker is a poof in comparison. You’re partially right. He wouldn’t have got stick for being a Spud. Bit of a no no on the east end. Genuinely detest his behaviour on the pitch start of kart season and no matter who he joined, that would be forgotten. You just don’t do that. Undone all his good work.

  • and spurs never slag off ezx players hahaha

  • legends11 says:

scott parker deserve’s respect and appreciation from the west ham fans. he was a good servant to the club despite the club doing some crazy things (ie. isacking Zola, Grant, bizarre transfer dealings, Allardyce). if he’d have stayed he would have bordered on legend status, but that loyalty for me has disappeared as he pushed to leave when we loved him the most. respect yes. appreciation yes. continued love no. booing absolutely not!

  • cartel says:

Are you 2 bob romany, pikey, itinerants still banging on about this?
Fuck sake lads, clean the halting site, tarmac afew drives, shag afew relatives,
But just give this a rest!!!!

  • The Cat says:

Maybe Parker’s been hiding under a stone and didn’t realise the feeling held between the two clubs OR maybe he is arrogant enough to feel he had made it into the hammers all time hall of fame, and therefore he could do no wrong!
He didn’t help himself in the long protracted negotiated transfer and “clearly” disinterested poor performances before his dream move Or that honest ‘Arry was involved….

But that’s the way the cookie crumbles and being all hurt and offended doesn’t mean he will lose any sleep over it….. and neither will I, so we move on!

  • matt says:

Scott Parker is a cock. I couldn’t stand him at West Ham and I can’t stand him at spuds. It’s easy to be player of the season in a team full of crap which is what we were. Booing him is everybody’s god given right, the same as any other player you don’t like.
I love my club but I’ve always hated most of the people involved with it.

    • Anonymous says:

Bang on. Side note. Parker’s little 360 turn to prevent himself having to face up to the fact he can’t go past players with ball in tact drove me nuts. The cockney Pirlo. Haha.

  • Yidooooooooo says:

What a bunch of pikie cunts,no one cares who you are.Glad you were watching last night wankstains

    • Anonymous says:

Fuck off you pre-op cunt. Shouldn’t you be wanking off to a picture of Bale eh you fucking rub.

  • Anne says:

Again you are winding up the fans.with negative subjects Every man has a right to improve himself. And he did not have a go at the fans he just made a statement through disappointment. He worked his socks off for us. There is not one person that goes to work that would turn down a job with better prospects
Everyone should just concentrate on the own lives Yes we buy tickets but that gives us no entitlement . This what football does players change clubs, If people do not like what happens in football they should choose another sport. I have another sport l go to as well it is Speedway and booing and bitching never happens.Every rider regardless whether he stays or leaves a club is repected and liked. They meet up with their fans and are interested in them. Why can’t we just go to a game and then go home and live our lives it is just a game and l do not say this lightly I love my club but it is not my life and l do not feel l have the right just because l buy a Season Ticket to boo or slag players off because they have left my club.It is their decision and by god there are so many other things to worry about than that. A 16 year old girl got stabbed to death yesterday. If l feel any anger it is towards people like that. So come on Stop these silly questions you keep putting on here and lets just get behind OUR team and keep our fingers crossed we stay up

  • Anonymous says:

Hahaha. One female comment and it’s straight on to it’s just a game. Someone got stabbed there is more to life. That’s all fine and that but this is an article about football. Not as if we’re all ranting and raving about Scott Parker on BBC breaking news. Context. Don’t like it, go on a Speedway forum instead. This is football, this is West Ham. Passionate fans are just that.

  • bob says:

hey rob are You from Dorchester with s brother called Thomas ?

  • Jim says:

    Shut up cunts!

  • The Cat says:

Scum don’t care about us and we’re insignificant?
So why are this lot on here?

Many of us don’t care about Parker for the proven reason that the team he went to are cocks (skinless) of the highest order, so that makes him one too!
