West Ham Ace Settling In Well

James Collins scoring against Manchester UnitedArsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny wants the Gunners to move on from the Tottenham defeat.

The North London club lost 2-1 on Sunday to Tottenham despite dominating large spells of possession and now find themselves seven points behind their arch rivals.

The derby defeat comes after the recent FA Cup exit to Championship side Blackburn Rovers and the humbling defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.

Arsenal are now on a 10 day break from football with their proposed Premier League match with Everton this Saturday rescheduled due to the Merseyside club’s FA Cup commitments.

The players were back in training today as they prepare for the second leg against the Bundesliga side next Wednesday and Szczesny insists they won’t be dwelling on Sunday’s loss.

“Every time we lose a derby there is going to be disappointment, but we have to pick ourselves up. We have 10 days until the next game so we have to make sure we are prepared for that,” the Poland goalkeeper told the club’s official website, www.arsenal.com.

“We have a lot of time to prepare for that game and if we manage to get a good result and hopefully qualify for the next round, that would be a massive boost to have a good run in the Champions League.”

Arsenal’s defensive frailties have been a common talking point in recent years and despite former Arsenal defender Steve Bould joining the staff the defence has still made several high profile errors.

Despite this German international Per Mertesacker believes Arsenal have the talent and understanding to improve their tactical understanding.

“Of course there is potential, but we have to show that on the pitch,” said Mertesacker, whose headed goal at the start of the second half against Spurs failed to bring about an expected late rally.

“That is what is needed over the next few weeks: to go to Munich and take our chance there, then we have to take care of the league and go for all the points.”

Elsewhere, reports are suggesting that Emmanuel Frimpong could be set to make his loan move to Fulham a permanent one.

However the midfielder has since replied to a question from a fan on Twitter branding the reports “lies” but later deleted the tweet.
