The Shocking West Ham Supporter

|

Tottenham Hotspur manager André Villas-Boas and West Ham's Sam Allardyce at White Hart LaneIt’s with a heavy heart and a vein almost popping out of my temple that I write to vent my spleen at one of the most appalling things I’ve ever heard/read from a fellow West Ham supporter. Granted this could be an overstatement of magnificent proportions, and we have all probably heard more offensive remarks, but as a supporter this completely stunned me for reasons that will soon become apparent.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve used social media a lot to keep up to date with West Ham when I’m on the move and away from the office or home. Only last week I was unable to get internet connection long enough and found myself scrabbling around to see who could tell me if the Paolo di Canio/Swindon Town rumours were true. Alas, they were and Paolo had walked out of Swindon after having differences with the board.

Predictably, within 24 hours Facebook had lit up as whispers and ‘what-ifs’ snowballed. A throw away status asking us, the fans, if we’d welcome Paolo back to the club, to take over from Sam Allardyce was published and the more imaginative supporters were piecing together all manner of scenarios, safe in the knowledge that Sam’s contract talks were currently on hold until Premiership survival assured. Whilst many acknowledged that recent results and performances leave a lot to be desired, a point many were making in a less than charitable manner, one quote in particular saw the red mist rise within me when talking about the game ahead of us on Monday.

“I can’t wait to boo the lads off at half time against Tottenham”

This comment is, to me, wrong on so many levels. How can booing your own team be something to look forward to at a game. If we’re jeering then we’re unimpressed and the lads are putting in a disappointing performance. Surely that’s not something to look forward to? Surely, as difficult as it is to go into every game with an open mind you have to? Surely a true fan looks forward to cheering? This is the Tottenham game; agame against our rivals. Did the purveyor of this ridiculous comment also boo our team off at half-time against Chelsea?

More disappointing still, is that my understanding was that a lot of the build-up to this game, and the game itself, would have efforts being put into remembering Bobby Moore who we lost twenty years ago. The World Cup winning captain was the embodiment of respect and gentlemanly conduct. Therefore, surely instead of pouring scorn on the team, licking lips in anticipation at reasons to belittle our side, a more admirable way to conduct oneself would be with grace and decency like Robert Frederick Chelsea Moore would have, especially when you consider the fall out of our game in late November.

Instead of getting on their backs, let’s get behind them whilst remembering Bobby.

I’m going for three points! COYI

Peace out

Smudgy

I am horrified to hear this – I cannot call these people West Ham fans.
I have been brought to to cheer my team win or lose especially against Spurs.
PAulo Di Canio was a great player for us but he is in no way good enough to take Sam’s place.
I have have said this so many times before – when Sam came to West Ham, he made promises & he has kept them likewide the 2 chairmen, we have a lot to thank them for.
And those who are going to jeer West Ham – GET OUT & STAY OUT.

What did Sam ever achieve in the Premier league except keeping Bolton/Blackburn just above the relegation zone playing long ball football. This is exactly what he has achieved with West Ham and If David Gold keeps him that’s what we can all look forward to!I have been lucky enough to see many of the good West Ham teams of the past including players like Boyce,Moore,Brooking,Devonshire,Cottee,Ferdinand,J.Cole,
Carrick and Benayon. What Sam is serving up is a disgrace to the footballing traditions of West Ham Utd.
Please Messrs Gold and Sullivan listen to the fans who pay hard earnt money to watch their Club beig dragged through the gutter.
