Is It Important That West Ham Keep Sam Allardyce Past This Season?

|

Allardyce SamSince his arrival at West Ham United, Sam Allardyce had a mix reception with many fans suspecting him to take the ‘route one’ approach which he perfected during his Bolton Wanderers days. However, he has so far managed to get us promoted from the Npower Championship and win over the majority of the Hammers faithful, but with his contract running out, just how much would we miss him if he left?

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

So far it’s fair to say Big Sam has been a success as a claret and blue manager, with the fans starting to grow towards him and his style of play and with the board backing him 100% it appears as though offering him a new deal which resulted in him signing the dotted line should be easy, so why the delay?

The problem is football has now changed from a sport focused on jubilation, despair, success and failure to a sport where nothing but money talks and that is the reality. Players don’t follow the old fashioned value of loyalty anymore and those that do are very rare. Instead players now focus on chasing the silverware, Champions League football or wherever the money is and it’s sickening. This is a similar scenario for managers too, as they have bundles of pressure placed on their shoulders to be a success at a club and if they don’t deliver straight away they are given the sack, also another modern day action sparked by the potential financial downfall failure could lead to. However, despite this pressure is it right for a manager to then demand high wages? I personally feel clubs should offer a manager a standard salary at first and depending on their success, then increase the amount. In Big Sam’s case I honestly hope the delay is due to clauses rather than a big pay-out if he is sacked or because of an insanely high salary, whatever the reason it needs to be solved and quickly.

I have been a fan of Big Sam since he joined the Hammers purely because he has built a squad that works hard and can actually defend as a unit (something we have failed to do for years) and I feel he has managed to sign some quality players, something previous managers had constantly failed to do before him. It seems to me he is taking us in the right direction and it excites me, on the other hand I do feel his days are numbered and I can see us hiring a manager from abroad who may bring a bit more excitement into the club at the expense of a little stability.

After getting us promoted and stabilising how position back in the Premier League, you can’t help but take your hat off to the man and what he has achieved in his 2 season stint so far. Many fans before the season stated they would be happy to just survive, but where is the ambition in that? Not only do we need to survive we need to finish as high in the table as possible and at this time right now, Big Sam is the man to do it.

I would like to offer a list of names who I feel could replace Big Sam if he were to leave, but in this sport anything is possible and the list of names could be endless. However, I will reiterate the voice of many and suggest giving Paolo Di Canio a chance to prove his worth, but that will be something that might happen further down the line.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

For now though we need to make sure we tie Big Sam down for at least 2 more years and we could well be looking like a force in the Premier League again. Right now – It’s the waiting game.

He has a win rate of 45% better than any other permanent west ham manager only being beaten by brooking for highest ever . Lay off sam and as he has proven again and again he will deliver with results .the team r in a slump we r 11 3 points off top 10 after returning from the championship! Few team have achived that and anyone sayi g atkins should be made manager are deluded compare where we were to where southampton were when he was fired !

Big sams claret and blue army

CAUSE BEFORE BIG SAM CAME THATS ALL THAT HAPPENED , he took over a club in a mess and turned things around IF IT WAS ANY ANOTHER MANAGER WE WOULD BE CHEERING HIM BUT BECAUSE BIG SAM GOT HOOF BALL LABLE EVERYONE IS SLATING HIM , GET A GRIP WILL YOU ALL PLEASE ,i dont care how we play as long as we win I PAY MY MONEY TO SEE WEST HAM WIN NOTHING MORE .

Sam’s objective was twofold. Get us promoted first time. Tick. ( and the fans had a lot of fun in the play-offs.) And secondly to keep us up this season. Still possible. The time to judge him is at the end of the campaign. If he succeeds then he should stay.

Any time one talks about replacing someone, the question has to be asked; who are you going to bring in? If the answer is an inanimate steel rod, I’ll stick with Big Sam. If the answer is Pep Guardiola, I might have to change my answer.

  • Anne says:

Why does this boring question keep coming up All it does is whip the anti Sam fans up. This is stupid Sam as you said got us back up and is trying to keep us there. I think people forget that while we were down in the Championship other teams(Who the fans expect us to beat) improved their teams 3 fold. We are a Season behind them and also it is hard to sign players when you are not established in the Prem League. So hopefully if we stay up it will be easier. But for god’s sake get off Sam’s back and also the PROPER West Ham players, Just get behind the team lets not have that awful atmosphere back again at games. I hate the fact that when players come in they become Hero’s when (ie Diame and Ba )just use us a window to get to better clubs but the loyal players get slagged off.Come on Loyalty and hard work playing for the club they love should mean something to the fan’s, They say they love West Ham WELL SO DO OUR West Ham boys. And .. Sometimes you have to be careful
what you wish for. Most times it is better the devil you know Especially when he is doing ok and the team are playing for him and look happy.

Do you actually fork out your hard earned cash to watch Sam’s so-called ‘style’ of football?
Getting 3 points is great, course it is, but if you do actually attend, you cant seriously find the game entertaining?? It’s dire stuff that belongs in the Blue Square Premiership.
How are we going to get our kids to be interested and want to be Hammers, to ignore the lure of the glamour clubs all around us with their £20m Brazilian wonder kids playing tiki-taka when all we do is lump it long to Carroll and hope for a lucky follow up? It’s dull, outdated and above all, it doesn’t flipping work anymore!

  • Kevin Lofting says:

Sam says West Ham never won anything with their style of football.Well,he hasn ‘t won anything for us.We scraped through the play off final last year with the most expensive team in the championship. We were knocked out of both cups in the early stages this year and we are flirting with relegation playing the ugliest football in the premiership!
On current results we are the worst team in the premiership!
I only hope that we win 3 of our home games and survive but it is by no means a certainty and if we keep Sam we can look forward to more of the same crap next season. We make Stoke look exciting!
