How Will Financial Fair Play Benefit West Ham?

|

west ham badgeWest Ham are a team, who since David Gold and David Sullivan came in, have taken care of their books very well, and West Ham have been put into a much more stable position both on and off of the pitch, and with the new financial fair play supposedly being brought into the Premier League, it looks like this may happen further; however would financial fair play really help West Ham United?

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

Two years ago we were the team that were sitting at the bottom of the Premier League, with Avram Grant at the helm, being thought of as a one man team and still trying to recover from the financial stress that Egert Magnusson had put on our club. After a relegation and a promotion West Ham are in a much better position than they were back then, currently in mid table and it has been said that our debt has been heavily reduced, so it is clear to see that we are already stable.

You have to remember that we are not solely a business, we are a football team looking to push on and while we want to stay stable, we have to try to continue to push up the table rather than just be happy with what we have; and this is where the financial fair play comes in.

As a team who are already managing their money well, I feel that the financial fair play law would help us, as I feel that it would be a law that helps us to further lower our debt, while it may also hinder other clubs who are also threatening to push on, who would have more spending power than us in normal circumstances.

How would a team like QPR or Southampton be able to climb up the table without spending more than they earn, the spending of QPR has been well documented and without the signings of Chris Samba and Loic Remy they would be pretty much doomed, while Southampton have also spent large amounts on players such as Gaston Ramirez, this season in order to attempt to be a Premier League force, and while the rule may hold teams back, as a team who don’t spend excessive amounts anyway I don’t think it would have much of a negative effect on our team.

If I was wrong and it did badly affect us, and we were unable to strengthen much- as would happen with a few teams- then being able to dip into the Academy of Football would be a great back up plan, and we could supplement their talents more, giving them a chance to shine in claret and blue.

I would say that the Financial Fair Play law which could be introduced in the Premier League, could benefit West Ham United, as it would aid us in making the club even more stable, while I don’t feel that it would hinder us, as we try to move forward as a football club.
