Newcastle United keen on James Tomkins but should West Ham sell?

|

West Ham defender James Tomkins is being targeted by fellow Premier League side, Newcastle United. The Magpies are looking to bring in the English centre back during the current transfer window, but after the Hammers slapped a £10 million price tag on the twenty three year old.

The Magpies actually launched a £4 million bid last season, which was swiftly turned down.

Following the news of Tomkins’ price tag, Hammers reacted differently with some saying the money was too good to turn down and others saying we had to keep hold our academy graduate.

West Ham fan Stephen Wilson (@campio4) stated “We need to keep him [Tomkins] as he has a lot of potential and we [West Ham] won’t buy much better”

West Ham have been put in this boat before, and this time the Hammers should decline all bids of all sums in order to go an and grab themselves success. Their past crop of players that included the likes of Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Jermain Defoe, Joe Cole and plenty others, have all represented England, and won themselves trophies, and titles. Had West Ham kept hold of these players, their past fortunes could have been very different. Hopefully, their past mistakes have proved a learning curve for the Hammers who aim not to make the same mistake with their current bunch of youngsters.

Tomkins played an integral part of West Ham’s promotion push last season, and hopefully it proves to the backroom staff at Upton Park that he is one for the future, and one for keeping hold of. Fortunately for most Hammers fans, manager Sam Allardyce has declared that the will not allow Tomkins to be sold.

With £10 million being mentioned, it has left many in doubt as to what we should do. Fight or flight?

In today’s football economy, money is very much needed, as has been portrayed by Manchester City, however QPR recently spent, spent, spent, and where are they now?

For West ham, this decision is proving very difficult for the club as they need to make the right decision.

Is Tomkins the nexy Bobby Moore or is he the next Anton Ferdinand, a flop in the making?

Anton was a much better player than Tomkins ever will be and he was crap ! Get rid now for anything we can get . He is over hyped , slow in the head and responsible for 6 of last 8 goals conceded .

Depends who we get as a replacement. We certainly can’t sell him in January as we have no defenders, but in the Summer is definitely possible.

If we can sell Tomkins and get in another young defender with more promise then he could be allowed to go. Certainly for 10 million i’d let him go. But where do you find that kind of player? Can’t think of any that stand out in the premier league, so then you are taking a risk on a foreign player or a lower league player.

May well be better off sticking with what we know and coaching the mistakes out of him.
