FIVE things to look forward to in 2013

|

Happy New Year everyone! As this is my first article of 2013, I thought it only fair to look forward to this year and see what treats it has in store for Hammers fans.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

1. A comfortable finish to the Premier League season – I’ve got a really good feeling about this season. Looking at the strength we’ve shown so far, I can’t see us getting sucked into a relegation battle. Hopefully I’m not jinxing anything but I feel supremely confident that this squad have the character and determination to grind out results. However, the squad we got relegated with the first time were very strong too – but there are definitely weaker teams than us in the division! I think a top 10 finish isn’t out of the question.

2. The return of our wounded soldiers – Mohamed Diame is due to make his return soon – I’m hoping it’s after the transfer window to decrease the chances of him leaving – and boy have we missed him. Our midfield has been lacking in creativity without him in the side, and he’s been instrumental in our positive football. Alou Diarra also made a welcome return to the side against Manchester United, and I thought for someone that hasn’t had any first team football this season he looked solid. It was a relief in a way that the Arsenal match was called off on Boxing Day, as that may have stretched our limited squad too far.

3. Beating Manchester United in the cup again – As I write this, we’ve just played an amazing game of football, and those pesky Reds had to get their pal Robin van Persie on to pull a last-gasp goal back. We face a replay at Old Trafford, and I’m really hoping we show the kind of form we did today. We nearly pulled off a bit of a shock today, and to paraphrase Kevin Keegan, I would absolutely love it if we beat them!

4. Big Sam extending his contract – I definitely think that Sam Allardyce has done enough to earn a contract extension. He got us up at the first time of asking, and has instilled fight and belief in the squad. He may not have been many fans’ favourite choice when appointed, mine included, but the majority have definitely warmed to him. The papers are still calling him unpopular, which I think is farfetched now. The majority of fans are most definitely behind Big Sam, and in my opinion it would be a massive, massive error if we let him go.

5. Loanees returning – Dan Potts has already made his return to Upton Park, and I think he adjusted very well to life against the big boys. With Rob Hall and Ravel Morrison to return from Birmingham City as well as some others, I’m excited to see them come back and show their parent club what they’ve learnt on their travels. I’m especially excited for the return of Hall and Morrison, as they seem to have been pairing up really well at loan club Birmingham. It also seems like Morrison’s attitude has improved while he’s been away, so we may well be looking at the finished article when he comes back.
