Can West Ham ‘juggle’ the Premier League and FA Cup?

|

West Ham travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday night for the FA Cup third round replay against Sir Alex Ferguson’s high flying Manchester United after the 2-2 draw at The Boleyn Ground.

Currently sitting in a comfortable league position, many Hammers fans would like to a see a cup run this season after last season’s3rd round exit at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday. The FA Cup is a highly coveted competition in English football and to see West Ham advance to the latter stages would mean a lot to many of the faithful.

There are pros to fielding a first team (well, as close a one as we can right now) on Wednesday night. For a start United are likely to rest some key players, the cup is a valuable source of income and the tie that waits for the winner, Blackpool or Fulham at home is one does look winnable.

However, coupled with the pros are certain cons. Saturday’s league game against Arry’s QPR is a massive one for us. The wins have dried up a bit of late, so a home game against a struggling side is one that we need to do our very best to win. Due to that, we cannot afford to lose any more first team players from our already injury depleted squad.

My heart says let’s go for the cup. My head says field a weakened side and go all out for QPR. However no matter what side is put out, as long as the boys give all they can in the match, a positive result is possible.

I think Big Sam’s hands are tied to a certain extent in this one. If we put a too a weakened side out at old Trafford then we will be murdered! Sir Alex has also named a very strong side as well and this alone signifies that he will be taking no prisoners whatever side we put out. So although this signals the real respect and high regard in which he holds our club in it ties Big Sam’s hands and forces him to play the strongest team possible. Having said that I’m really looking forward to the game and seeing diarra partner Diame in centre midfield! Not seen our subs bench and think this is where the game will be one! We could suffer from strength in depth when team tires and subs need to be made. Keep the faith! COYI!
