EXCLUSIVE: Winston Reid’s contract talks

|

West Ham are taking their time to get new Upton Park “cult hero” Winston Reid’s new contract “spot on.”

The New Zealand central defender is high on the list of Players of the Year at the club and the Hammers have a two year option on his contract when his current deal expires in the summer.
Talks are now well underway with Reid and his advisers as the club seek to hammer out a deal which will see the player “more than happy.”
A source said: “There’s no pressure in this situation at all. We have time to do things in the right way as we have the automatic option anyway but we want the boy to be very happy.
“He has had an outstanding season and is becoming something of a cult hero. He’s also a great lad who has a terrific attitude so it’s important we get things done the right way.”
Meanwhile the club has declared that it will resist all transfer window interest for central defender James Tomkins.
The source said: “The days of us selling our best players is something we are determined to turn around and James is an important player in our future.”
