Boxing Day blessing

|

No doubt about it we’ve had a touch with the news that the Boxing Day fixture against the Arsenal has been postponed till late January.

Our injury situation at this moment in time is pretty dire; with the likes of Ricardo Vaz Te, Alou Diarra, Jack Collison, Andy Carroll, Yossi Benayoun and Mohamed Diame all unavailable. But thanks to the joyous aforementioned news; by the time the fixture is replayed the vast majority of our walking wounded will be back and maybe even some additions picked up in the January sales.

With the news that our Boxing day fixture has been postponed we will now have a clear week of rest and recuperation between Everton at home on Saturday and Reading away the following Saturday. A winnable game against the bottom of the table Royals just became a hell of a lot more winnable with the Berkshire boys still in action against Swansea at the Madjeski.

In fact the prolonged rest might just mean that the likes of Diarra, Collison and Benayoun might just be available for the trip to last season’s Champions of the Championship…and this season’s basement boys of the Premier League.

Even with the Arsenal game postponed we still face the daunting prospect of 4 games sandwiched into 2 weeks and 2 of these fixtures are against the form sides of the league in Everton and Norwich, the other is the small matter of Man United in the cup…

The brief respite we’ve been offered should be cherished and hopefully it will prove beneficial in our Xmas/New year fixtures.
