How have the new signings done?

|

Here is a quick summary of how I think our first team new signings have helped West Ham so far this season.

George McCartney – He had a solid season during his loan spell for us in the Championship, but I personally think that’s where his ability level lies. I do like McCartney and think he is an OK squad player but that’s all. I would like a new left back when the January transfer window opens.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Alou Diarra – When we signed Diarra I thought this was a very good signing and I still think so, unfortunately he has been injured and this has hampered his season… but he can defiantly bring something to West Ham, he is a solid, no-nonsense midfielder that could act as cover for Nolan, Diame and Noble but I feel he should be challenging these three for a permanent place in the team when he is fully fit.

Jussi Jaaskelainen – In my honest opinion I was never happy about this signing when it was made. Two or three years ago this would have been a cracking signing but he is clearly past his best and I don’t know what he can, or is, offering us. So far this season his kicking has been awful and his handling has been worrying, he never fills me with confidence within a game.

Mohamed Diame – HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. What a signing this has been. He is strong, powerful, good on the ball, strong in the tackle and wants to get forward. He isn’t shy to get stuck into the not so pretty side of the game. An all round excellent signing in my opinion and will go from strength to strength.

James Collins – Another good signing which brings strength to the back four. Excellent in the air but we all know how good Collins is, he does have the habit of sometimes losing concentration so that’s the one part of his game I would say needs looked at.

Yossi Benayoun – Another signing I am glad we made. It is fantastic that he has come back to the club. His fitness needs worked on but we all know again what he can bring and I know he will deliver. He is a player I rate highly and a player that should have never left the club to start with.

Modibo Maiga – Maiga is a player I am really looking forward to seeing more of and watching his development at the club. He comes with a great reputation from the French League and has an eye for a goal. He looks sharp and looks to have a good leap. Personally I would play him off Carroll and I think he will grab goals, well I hope so!!!

Matt Jarvis – Jarvis has come with a hefty price tag so he has a lot to live up to. Jarvis is an excellent winger and has a great cross that could provide excellent chances for Carroll. He looks full of energy and shows commitment to the club so that is good enough for me, even if I think we paid a little over the odds for him.

Andy Carroll – I think this loan signing will come good by the end. Carroll isn’t a striker that is going to get you a shed load of goals, he provides far more assists than he scores himself. He tires defenders and has got all the fans excited again. I really like this signing and I have full faith in his abilities and what he can bring to the club.

I know these are only my opinions and I am happy for all discussions and varying opinions from other readers, this to me is the greatest part of being a football fan, the chance for everyone to have their own opinions

  • Good blog mate I believe AC will score loads if he gets the service. Maiga could be sensational if he continues to develop. The biggest and best surprise for me has been Winston Reid ‘awsome’

Diame has been an absolute dime of a signing for us. I have heard whispers of him being a similar style of player to yaya toure which I have to agree with. He bombs forward with pace to scare the defence and also isnt frightened to get stuck in when things get tough. In my opinion Andy Carrol is also up there. It must be frustrating for him recently when defenders climb all over him and he doesnt get free kicks, but he has certainly been worrying every defence he comes across. every set peice he has ATLEAST 2 defenders on him which creates space for the likes of nolan and nobles to find the space they need to get chances. If he starts scoring for us on a regular basis I just think that would be a bonus, he is already doing a lot for the team.
