What a second half!

|

With the clouds rolling in and the excitement mounting, I had a great feeling about this game. The feeling of belief in this team, rather than just hoping for something to happen, which is what I’ve been doing for the last few years.

However, my prediction of an early West Ham bombardment of the Southampton goal did not materialise, and my feeling of belief became one of nervousness.

I can’t really remember a good chance for West Ham in the first half, whereas Southampton had a fair few chances and were fortunately caught offside several times with Yossi Benayoun looking a bit rusty.

As I began to analyse why I had felt so confident about this game, a few doubts were beginning to creep in before Mark Noble’s free kick was missed by everyone and wiped the doubts away.

My confidence returned even stronger when Benayoun’s shot (did someone say he was rusty?) was parried by their keeper and tapped in by the leading goal scorer.

Adam Lallana attempted to test my confidence when he smacked one in for the Saints, but I held firm. Then Sam Allardyce tested me by bringing on Gary O’Neil.

Fortunately, one of their defenders helped to calm me down when he pulled on Andy Carroll’s luxurious ponytail to give us a penalty, which was duly dispatched by Noble.

When that goal went in, I sensed the life drain out of Southampton, and we were home and dry. Carroll came off to a well deserved ovation – I can almost sense him becoming a West Ham legend.

Then on comes Modibo Maiga who picked up the ball and drove through their increasingly tiring defence to curl the ball beautifully past the now shell – shocked Artur Boruc on his debut.

It was good to see Spence given another little taste of Premier football in the closing minutes too. The only disappointment for me was that we didn’t score another goal which would have taken us above West Brom and Spurs. Now I’m just being a greedy boy.

Outside the normal top five sides I am starting to think we can give any side a game I have not felt this way about a west ham side in years .

We will be playing a team on a bad run,but as we all know bad runs don’t last forever,we need to approach this game with caution,I predict 1 1 and that will be a good point .

Sorry to be picky but it wasn’t a shot by Jossi, it was a great pass that the keeper couldn’t get near to. Also the pen was for handball. Agree with the rest though. Exiting 2nd half.

After the Wigan game, how many points do you think from the next 11 games,mr troia because this could be a real lean time how do you think the team will deal with this how many points do you predict ..

As a west Ham fan Mystic, it is hard to be objective, but this is what I think. Wigan W; M City D; Newcastle L; stoke W; Spurs D; M utd L, Chelsea L; Liverpool W; WBA D; Arsenal L; Reading W. So that is 15 points from the next eleven games. I think the team can deal with this run of games better now they have points in the bag, as they won’t be as tense, and a defeat won’t be as bad for us as it would be if we were down with the likes of Southampton and the others.

Don’t see 15 points I see moe like 8 and to be honest that would not be to bad with that run of games, we would be over half way to magical 40 points by Xmas not to bad in my opinion ?

You say eight, and you could well be right, but surely we can beat Wigan, stoke at home and Reading away. There’s nine points. I’ve also gone for us to beat Liverpool at home, and I don’t see why not. And I think we culd definitely pick something up at WBA. But sure, the rest of the games look very difficult.

Wigan as I said a draw for me , next 11 games that includes Everton at home 8 is on the negative side I guess , but I think that 8 will be closer than 15 , I would be interested in the view of other fans on this topic .
