The lengths we go to

|

Throughout the years I have followed West Ham’s games in a variety of geographical locations, using very different methods of following those games.

For example, I have been to the games and watched them play. I sat alone on a balcony at a party in Los Angeles listening to a radio, and once walked around a corn – field in Kent getting texts from my brother.

For the QPR game, I found myself in a remote farmhouse in the Andalucian countryside. There was no TV, and the English bar that was showing it was a bit of a trek up and down mountain roads – so we gave that a miss.

So I descended the stairs with my laptop to a room which used to be the cattle = shed. I found the BBC live text of the game and started to watch that. I sat there waiting for the texts and finding myself absorbed by the experience.

I soon worked out that an image of a ball would materialise before the text would appear. I found myself just as pleased at the end as someone who had just watched it on TV or listened by radio.

You can’t beat it live, but if you have no choice, what do you do? What is your preferred means of following the games?

I listened to the England v Spain euro 96 game whilst clearing a mine field on sailsbury plain. Commentating to my mates 🙂

I quite like the slightly biased commentary of BBC London
