FIVE things we need to know about Maiga

|

Sam Allardyce today confirmed West Hams interest in Modibo Maiga who looks set to join the Irons subject to completing a medical.

Allardyce said; “At the moment that is progressing. That is going forward as we speak but is a little way off being clinched.”

But who is Maiga here are five things to help you get to know him a bit better.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

1. Modibo Maiga is a Malian international attacking player who can play either on the wing or in the centre of attack; he has represented Mali on 24 occasions just bagging the one goal in his international stint so far. At the age of just 24 I’m sure he has many more international adventures to go.

2. Last season he tried to force a move away from his current club FC Sochaux in attemptto secure a move to Newcastle United but after a fee was agreed, the Mali international failed a medical due to a persistent knee injury. So the move is no foregone conclusion.

3. The fee to sign the striker is said to be around £4.5 million according to reports and according to some people who watch the French league the Irons could be paying over the odds but the young forward could prove to be worth every penny if he helps the Irons to secure Premier League safety.

4. In his 24 league goals for FC Sochaux half of them were scored with his head.

5. Last season he bagged 9 goals in 23 appearances for Sochaux but let’s face it we need a winger/striker for our Premier League adventure, and if he can bag 10 goals this season it will look like good business.

So there are 5 things you may need to know about our potential new signing, with his dodgy knees it sounds like a Demba Ba-esque signing and if he is half as good as Demba who has scored 23 goals in 49 appearances for West Ham and Newcastle combined. He will be a hell of a signing.

Videos can be deceiving but here is a video of some of his goals.

I think hes scored something like 24 goals in 52 appearances in his 2 seasons at Sochaux which works out almost a goal every 2 games which is what we need. And if Pardew was intrested in him, we know he had a good eye for striker last season with Ba and Cisse both banging in the goals, so he cant be that bad!

As a newcastle fan I was really excited at the thought of signing Miaga and was dissapointed when we didn’t. If west ham bag him then they’ll have a great player to help them stay in the premier league
