Would we welcome him back?

|

A lot of West Ham fans had forgotten about eccentric forward Alessandro Diamanti, until his fine Serie A form for Bologna meant he received a shock call up for the Italy Euro 2012 squad.

The attacking midfielder/forward, don’t get me started on his position there’s a big enough thread on it on KUMB.com who is best known for the 1.8 million pound that it still owed to the East end club.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

But West Ham fans were put on alert when Ian ‘Moose’ Abraham tweeted “Just saw Diamanti he said he still loves West Ham and would like to come back”. This has led me to think would we welcome him back.

As this news broke threads were popping up all over the West Ham forums, many differing opinions came up. Many Hammers wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole. Many Hammers would welcome him back with open arms. His flair is something that many fans are craving; watching him strike that winning penalty against England reminded me of his coolness during set pieces.

However for me, Diamanti was never a team player, he would drift in and out of games and then when it really mattered he would shoot from a ridiculous angle and/or distance. Now at times he would get us on our feet and get us excited, but he was far to inconsistent.

When I saw a few comments on the last post regarding Diamanti calling the Italian a Judas was though silly and ill informed. Diamanti joined under fellow compatriot Gianfranco Zola and Gianluca Nani, as soon as they left and Grant came in he felt homesick and wanted to return to his native Italy, and to be fair to the former number 32 it has worked out for him as he returned to the Italian squad.

For me I wouldn’t welcome him back, I remember fondly watching him entertain us, but this season it is about teamwork and players who want to wear the shirt, I don’t doubt his passion, but I just don’t see how he would fit in to Big Sam’s master plans. Plus I would much rather see Sam Allardyce secure the signing of Burak Yilmaz and Milos Krasic, who would add more to the Hammers squad than Diamanti would.

Come on you Irons!

I’m with you – I wouldn’t welcome him back. In& out of games, could rarely last 90 mins, too inconsistent. But had the ‘best left foot in the premiership’ according to Kwame! Lol

Don’t forget guys the most important factor we had avram grant as manager , but with .Sam Allardyce would make a big difference FOREVER A HAMMER

Call me cynical but maybe the fact that we are pursuing payment never received from a club that doesn’t want to pay has something to do with mutterings about how much he loves the club and would be happy to come back.

Great flair player but either couldn’t or wouldn’t back track and help the team by trying to defend… no Drogbar in that respect but you have to say he had a foot, well only a left foot… but what a good one! Do we want him back? Nah!

Go get him Sam, a flair player who can light up a match and an international player for the Euro runners up, Sam’s Jay Jay Okacha. Moose is usually wrong though!
