3 in 3…don’t be hasty, Sam

|

After bagging 3 in 3 in pre-season so far West Ham’s Sam Baldock is staking his claim for his big chance in the Premier League just a year after plying his trade in League 1.

With rumour circulating of a move to Npower Championship new comers Charlton Athletic, Baldocks form in pre – season should deter Sam Allardyce from selling the Aylesbury born striker.

For me Sam Baldock is one of West Hams best finishers at the club, and one of the most intelligent forwards we have on our books, but his inexperience in the top league and with Allardyce looking to strengthen in the forward department time could be limited for the little man.

His intelligent runs and eye for goal could be a huge beneficiary for the Hammers if Allardyce does choose to keep him and play him of the bench and defenders begin to tire. His predatory instinct bagged him another goal in West Hams most recent friendly at Roots Hall where he picked up on a loose ball following the ball being spilled from the Shrimpers keeper to coolly slot the ball in with a delightful chip.

With Allardyce rumoured to be in for a couple of strikers namely Maiga and Liverpool’s Andy Carroll as well as QPR’s Jamie Mackie, Baldock will have to keep up his goal scoring form if he is going to get a sniff at the Premier League.

For me Baldock has a bit of the Michael Owen in him, and let’s face it we would all love to see him have half the career Owen has had, he vision for goals and his movement are second to none. It is refreshing to see a player point where he wants the ball rather than waiting for the ball to come to his feet.

If I was Allardyce I would continue to play in pre-Season to continue his confident boosting performances and allow him to enter the season in fine form and hopefully the Hammers will reap the rewards come mid-August.

Come on you Irons!

I don’t know what more he has to do. All players start off a little inexperienced, but league 1 is better than reserve football. I think he’ll be better in the Prem than Maynard. He is out most natural finisher and it will be a crime if we let him go. I’d say he’s easily capable of getting 15+ goals in the Prem, which is more than I can say for anyone else on the team.

    Completely agree!!

Give the lad a good run in the team and he will score goals. FACT. Him alongside Cole looked good at times last season, or if Big Sam brings in another target man type of player for him to play off. Unfortunately for Baldock, Allardyce will most likely employ his proffered 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation which means he’ll be stuck on the bench or out wide.

I cannot believe West Ham are even considering selling Baldock. Where do we think the goals will come from next season? As hard-working as Cole is, he’s never been our main goal threat, especially in the PL. Nolan will hopefully get a few, and Maynard if he gets a game. Likewise RVT. We’ll have to change the 451 formation at some point during the season, and Baldock is the best player we’ve got to fill the 2nd striker role.

Is it fact that Baldock is going to be sold?
As I haven’t read any statements that confirm this?

I agree that Baldock should stay at the club. He is still young and has more to learn. We don’t even know though that Big Sam is considering selling Little Sam. It Has hopefully just been exaggerated through hearsay. Remember that Big Sam beat off competition to sign him last August. But they could have had a row we don’t know about. I hope not though. A big part of Baldocks problem is due to our captain. Nolan is always going to be picked, but is too lazy too play in a 4-4-2 formation. This means we have to play with 3 in the middle of the park. This system does not allow for 2 out and out strikers up top.
