Three weeks that make the Premier League the place to be

|

With the fixtures for the upcoming Premier League season announced on Monday, it made returning to the big time even more exciting and real for Hammers fans.

A good looking start with points very much on offer from the opening six games, and an equally nice looking final few games should that could be vital if West Ham are desperate for points come the end of the season (to snatch the final Champions League place from the Spuds).

However, the run of games that caught my eye were not the winnable games against the teams struggling down the bottom, but the big games against the bigger sides that will really test the Hammers.

One spell inparticular at the end of November and early December brought a huge grin to my face although it probably didn’t to Sam Allardyce.

Two stunning but expensive away games in the space of four days get it up and running as West Ham travel to White Hart Lane to face rivals Spurs on the 24th November in a game that every Hammer loves. That is quickly followed with a journey to the north west to face Manchester United on the following Tuesday (27th) which is always a special game for away fans especially with memories of Paolo Di Canio, Jermain Defoe and Carlos Tevez in recent years.

As if that wasn’t a hard enough week, West Ham fans will then welcome Frank Lampard and John Terry back to Upton Park on the Saturday (1st December) as the Champions League winners Chelsea make the trip across London for a game that is always keenly contested and sparks a great atmosphere at Upton Park.

So with maximum points from Spurs, United and Chelsea in the space of week completed, Liverpool will certainly fear coming to East London the following week as Brendan Rodgers’ new side will be looking to improve on last season, ending the run of three weeks and four games that are nothing short of huge.

That is what the relief and ecstasy of Ricardo Vaz Te’s Play-off Final winning goal was allabout. Hosting two of the biggest clubs in the world after taking a trip to two title challengers a week earlier. Facing two massive rivals along with witnessing the two most successful clubs in English football history.

If that doesn’t get you in the mood then nothing will.

New signings are slowly arriving and people will start to take West Ham seriously as the news eason draws ever closer.

But how will we fair over the tough periods?
