Leave them alone!

|

Since Robert Green and David Gold have both announced that the keeper is definitely going to be leaving West Ham on a free transfer this summer, I’ve seen a very mixed reaction from Hammers fans, especially on Twitter.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Some have even called Greeno a ‘c*nt’ and slated him, saying he’s a poor goalkeeper who always makes mistakes! Pretty sure they would be calling him world class if he decided to stay with the Hammers.

Others have been slamming David Gold on the social networking site, saying we should have given Green ‘whatever he wants’ for him to stay with the club. What a load of rubbish – NO player is bigger than the club. The debt that the club is in, we shouldn’t be wasting money on a player that doesn’t want to be there.

We should be thanking Green for his loyal service to West Ham, staying even when relegation looked to threaten his England career. Green has been a solid keeper, and yes he made the odd mistake but show me a keeper that doesn’t! If he wants a new challenge, why should the fans give him abuse? It doesn’t even seem to be about the money, as the Two Davids reportedly did offer him a substantial pay rise.

We got over Scott Parker leaving, even though he was a massively important player for us who gave his all. Hey, we even got over Matthew Upson leaving – and isn’t he having a lovely time not starting at Stoke when he used to be our captain?! Although Green has been our number 1 for 241 games, it’s time for a new goalkeeper to step up to the plate. And who knows, they may even be better than him in the long run.

So Green, I’d like to thank you for your service to the club, and wish you luck in wherever you go now. Who would you like to see as our next goalkeeper? Will Henderson be our number one? Tweet me at @alwaysintune to let me know.

I’d like to see Tomasz Kuszczak between the sticks for us, he wants out of Old Trafford to get first team football, and Ferguson wouldn’t hold onto him if he didn’t rate him, don’t know if anyone agrees? ………COYI ‘><'

  • Ginger says:

Id like to see Gordon, got plenty of years ahead of him and if he can stay fit he could go on to be our no1 for years to come

  • Nr9 iron says:

Green has IMO shown himself to be like most other footballers in that he sees pound notes instead of a bit of loyalty, how much money do these people want? Look at Upson who was an awful footballer and has been found out and Green although a decent keeper could end up at Qpr or West brom and what is the point f that?

  • pete says:

Nr9 iron…Green leaving is not about the money, he wants a new start…whats wrong with that?? The club offered him a rise but he wants to leave for footballing reasons. How can you say he has not shown loyalty when he stuck with us in The Championship even putting his international career at risk by doing so!!! i think you could be one of the people this article is about…

Good luck Greeno…wherever you end up!!

    • Nr9 iron says:

Maybe I am but maybe no one wanted him! I really don’t think he is leaving for another reason than money and if he ends up at Loftus road my point will be proven! I like him although there are similar rated keepers out there,I’m just disappointed. In the loyalty aspect!

    • deno says:

pete, i’m sick of hearing people say he stuck with us when we got relegated, HE STAYED BECAUSE WE DID NOT RECEIVE A SINGLE BID FOR HIM… FACT… if we recieved a bid he would have been off in a shot…

  • wes c says:

Not brilliant but very loyal for a while but QPR or West Brom !!! Whats the point when you’re loved at the club and a club that could maybe at last , progress !!!!! Crazy decision which you will regret Green !!!!

  • nathan smith says:

i think we should thank Mr Green and let him go and get Almunia on a free or the Bolton keeper, i would rather have Almunia who had a good loan spell with us earlier on and in my opinion is a Fantastic stopper and he would be great to help get our newest member the young henderson ready and help him out.

Can’t exactly call green a money graver don’t care what any one says the player was on 25k a week for a long time when others around him wasn’t performing and didn’t wanna be at the club was on double his wages didn’t moan nothing just got on with I can’t understand by people are slagging him off good service to us and all I can say is thank you for the memories Robert green west ham legend

    • Nr9 iron says:

25k a week over a four year period =£2.5 million,if he had come out and said he wanted to play for a club to win trophys then I wouldn’t mind but no he entered into contract talks with us but couldn’t agree terms so in my book is more interested in money than playing football !

      • Micky says:

He kept us in more games then I can remember FACT!! Yeh don’t get me wrong good money but for an England international is nothing considering you had players like dyer £70k upson £60k ljungberg £60k bowyer £40k faubert £60k gabidon £50k now please name me one of them players who cared about the club yet also kept us in games? Cos infact none of them cared only wanted money and none of them kept us in games if I remember rightly we had spurs come in fit him when he signed a new contract yet says no to them I get you was one of the people singing his praises when he was playing for us didn’t mind him taking £25k a week then did ya nah I bet you was living it same as every one else was

  • Zaman Siddiqui says:

I despise the fact that Tottenham Hotspur buy all our players. They have brought Jermain Defoe, Scott Parker and many other players. Now, they want to buy James Tomkins as well. I believe we should accept higher transfer bids. £8 million for the England captain, Scott Parker? What a joke!

I personally believe if we are to keep Robert Green, we should give him what he wants. There are many devout Hammers in our team who have been playing for years. Take Mark Noble, Robert Green, Carlton Cole, and Jack Collison. They are all astounding players who have the potential to play for England or Wales if you’re Jack Collison. These players are tremendous. They always perform well on the day, and provide us with a victory. We should be more respectful to all of these players who have stuck by us in good times and bad times.

I don’t see Carlton Cole, Mark Noble or Robert Green leaving for fancier clubs with better facilities and better statuses; they supported us in our time of weakness. We should salute them for all they have done. They are purely among our greats like the late Sir Bobby Moore, and Geoff Hurst.

  • Spence says:

Losing Greeny will be a big loss. That is beyond dispute because the man has been so consistent for us over a five season period. Only West Ham fans who have watched him week in week out know the real keeper. Supporters from other clubs have delighted in rubbishing Rob Green, all based on his howler for England in the world cup. That is both unfair and totally inaccurate. Hes a great shot stopper and is no where near as weak in the air as some may state.

The loss of Robert Green will be compounded TEN FOLD if he moved to slimy, double-dealing Tottenham. As if Carrick Defoe and Parkers moves werent bad enough. Why do we do ANY business with a club that has bent over backwards to rubbish us, and delight in causing huge problems for the club whenever they can. Just look at the Olympic Stadium bid farce. Spurs had no intention of seriously wanting that stadium, but, out of sheer malice and jealousy, tried every trick in the book to ruin it for us, all led by the odious Levy. Levy is devious, and I would have no hesitation is closing all diplomatic channels with this club for good. Why Gollivan continue to do business god only knows. If Greeny has to go, then please, let it be to a club with principles and morals. Thats the least Hammers fans deserve surely.

    • Nr9 iron says:

Trouble is he can go where he wants as he is a free agent,if he goes there it is a kickin the teeth to us and he should know that!

  • Poacher says:

Here, here, well said. Robert Green has been an excellent keeper and has done his best for us from day 1. He is not getting any younger and now wants to ensure that his family has enough to live on in later years – no differnt to any other young man with a brain and sense of responsibility.

As for messrs Gold & Sullivan, they should be applauded, not just for (reportedly) offering Rob Green double his current wages to stay, but also for their personalfinancial contributions, love of the club and financial discpline that have saved WHUFC from administration and, I have no doubt, will see it vying for Europe in a few years time.

    Grow up children.

  • IronMike says:

Personally, I’m not too worried about Green leaving. There are plenty of other good keepers about these days. Also i feel since the mistake he made for england he’s not quite been the same for us and now he’s back in the premiership the press will be gunning for him! He played well last year but the shooting/finishing is not the same level as in the premiership and i feel that Green could be out of the england fold completely by the next world cup.

Thanks for the service Greeno, i wish u all the best for the future (as long as it aint in a spurs kit)

  • OMG- Claire has had 4 fillings lately and now I am totally doubting myself. It started with her complaining about tooth pain and an actual chipped tooth. I had no doubts that was necessary. On her most recent check up and cleaning, I was not in the room for the xrays! We have no delta dental or insurance at all. Each filling is 180.00 to 220.00. So much for a summer vacation! Who are you going to now, Jeff?
