We can defend, they can’t…

|

So come the end of the week we’ll at last know our fate;whether it’s the glory of winning at Wembley thus securing an immediate return to the Premier League or whether it’s at least another season at this level with key playing personnel sold to balance the books one way or another our fate will be sealed.

I am relatively confident we will see off the men of Blackpool next Saturday though; they are fantastic going forward and in Thomas Ince and Matt Phillips they have two wingers with the pace and trickery to cause us problems but the big problem for Blackpool and hopefully this will prove their downfall next Saturday…they simply cannot defend.

I watched the semi final second leg between Blackpool and Birmingham City and I watched as Blackpool take a firm grip of the contest with goals just before and after half-time; only for horrific defending to give away two goals and set up a very tense finale, a finale that if the Brum hadn’thave played 60 odd games this season may have found the energy to force extra time.

Of course anything can happen in a one off game and I wouldn’t for a moment underestimate the power of Blackpool’s punch but it’s their rear-guard action that leaves me with hope that we shall be a Premier League club once more at 5 pm next Saturday. Sticking with the boxing analogy if the Tangerine’s were a boxer they would have a massive right hook which if it caught you flush in the face could leave you in a bit of trouble, but by the same token that glass jaw could always go at any moment.

Football is rarely a simple game; in a one off game literally anything can happen but looking at this winner takes all contest: both teams can attack with a mere two goals the difference between our end ofseason tallies (WHU -81 Blackpool- 79) but one look at the goals conceded reveals what will hopefully prove to be Blackpool’s undoing as they conceded 17 more goals than us. (WHU 41 Blackpool 58)

We can attack, so can they, we can defend, they cannot and hopefully there in lies where the game will be won and lost.

Come on – we have taken them apart over the past two seasons….their players will be going into the match with that fear in the back of their minds and no amount of coaching from Holloway can erase the memory of their two drubbings from us so far this season….we do not need to change our game plan for them, just make sure we turn up ready to give a top performance.

    C’mon Hammers.

Their defence is hopeless. They rely on scoring opportinistic goals, rebounds and loose balls. They are a league one club with too much gob and they need to be put in their place. C’mon Hammers, show em who’s boss, you’ve done it twice. Shut Big Gob hOLLOWAY UP.
