FIVE players we could lose

|

Hopefully, we’ll have a minor miracle on Saturday and go up automatically – and if not then, the play-offs beckon. But what if we don’t actually go up at all? Here’s a few players I think we’ll be waving goodbye to at the end of the 2011-12 season if we’re not heading to the Premier League.

Robert Green – Greeno’s contract is up at the end of the season anyway, but you’d assume that he’d definitely be more inclined to sign a new one if we did get promotion. Remaining in the Championship means less likelihood of any more England call-ups for our number one, and so it seems more and more likely as time goes on that he would go off to pastures new if we did miss out on promotion.

James Tomkins – Tomkins is one of the best players in our squad, and had plenty of Premier League sides sniffing around him when we went down. He did sign a huge four year deal with the Hammers, but with the loss of revenue that Championship football brings, the two Davids may have no other choice but to sell him if a big money offer comes in this time.

Henri Lansbury – I know, I know, he’s on loan to us at the moment. But I really rate Lansbury and would love to make his deal permanent. I can’t help thinking that if we don’t get the increased money that the Premier League brings, we won’t be making a bid for this talented youngster to stay on at West Ham. I’d really like him to, as he brings a lot of skill and some character to the squad. Plus, we could use him as a back up goalkeeper if Greeno does go!

(and 5) John Carew and Frederic Piquionne – I know what you’re all thinking – we’ll really miss them both won’t we? I’m still annoyed that I told my dad he had to buy me 5 Sambucca shots if Carew scored against Brighton and he couldn’t even do that! I think it’s safe to say that these two will go regardless, but that they won’t be missed. I will miss the Freddie Piquionne song though!

Who else do you think would go if we miss out on promotion? Let me know by tweeting me at @alwaysintune.

i reckon matt taylor would be off, he’s probably on a fair bit of money. tomkins i personally would sell if we had to raise money as he would probably be our most expensive player and i think can be replaced, ok maybe not to his exact standard but probably not far off it for a 1/4 of the price we would sell him for.

oh and btw, the poll on the right hand side that says which hammer would i want back, its none of them, Tevez all the way!! COYI’s!!
