So that’s it; automatic promotion went up in flames last night. The 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate now condemns the Irons to the lottery of the Play-Offs and the focus must now switch to our impending date with destiny.

During our run that almost saw us make our way back into the top 2 Ricardo Vaz Te has been simply immense; already notching 10 goals in the claret and blue this season making him our 2nd top scorer behind Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan who only have 2 more than him. With such a strike ratio (10 goals in 10 starts) there’s little doubt if Ricky had been with us all season an automatic return to the Premier League very much would’ve been on the cards.
After such a blistering start to his Hammers career the hopes of everyone who’s claret is tinged with blue are now on the Portuguese forward scoring the goals which could win us the Play-Offs. Is he up to the challenge? I would say so;Vaz Te looks to me a man bristling with vim, vigor and confidence. In tight play-off games his ability to produce something out of nothing (his recent over-head kick against Brighton a glowing testament to this) could prove vital and decisive as we now commence our march towards Wembley.

As we’ve all seen over the last few weeks since his return from injury Vaz Te has bit of everything; he’s quick, skillful, great in the air and clean and a clinical finisher; it is utterly amazing that despite only joining us in January he is only a mere two goals form our joint top scorers. (Such a statistic is surely another reason we’ve missed out on the comfort and serenity of automatics) In fact Vaz Te is only bettered in the Championship goal scoring charts by the one man band himself that is Rickie Lambert.
As we now head down the long and winding play-off road; I am relieved that we have goal-scorer in such great form to frighten the life out of those who stand between us and a return to the big time. If we are to conquer the play-offs I do feel Vaz Te will be key.

I could not agree more and full credit to Sam for a brilliant signing. I am confident that once again we will be deemed favourites in the play offs and rightly so. I just hope the finishing quality takes a giant leap forwards when it really matters! I have no doubts that Vaz Te has the ability to give us the inspiration to succeed.
