The Olympic Stadium Poll has been set, do you vote ‘Yes’ or ‘No’?

|

Today West Ham announced that they would be handing out an opinion poll before and after games to allow fans to give their views regarding the potential move to the Olympic stadium.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

According to the Adzman on Twitter who revealed the potential plans of the stadium there will be retractable seating over the track bringing fans closer to the action with stands named after legends

like Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and Trevor Brooking. Would these plans make Hammers fans more interested

about moving away from their memories at Upton Park to see it turn into flats or a supermarket? It’s hard for me to move away at the tender age of 19, let alone fans that have many more memories

than me at the famous old ground.

Will the poll receive a yes or no from me?

With money in the club tight and with the opportunity to lower prices and bringing football back to the people a move away from the sky high prices at Upton Park I’m all for the move. Cheaper season tickets and higher attendance would bring more fans and a better atmosphere to the ground. My primary concern with the move would be should the Hammers not receive promotion would the attendance grow or dwindle. The last thing the Hammers need is a Don Valley stadium style with rows and rows of empty claret and blue seats.

On the other hand, like many fans I shall miss the close to the pitch intimidating atmosphere that the Boleyn can bring, making the players hairs on the back of the necks stand. Scaring opponents

into mistakes and getting the ground shaking to its very foundations the old beauty that is the castle and the old chicken run stands on. Would retractable seating bring those same memories those cherished happy memories. I very much doubt it. I will never forget that feeling I got when I first made the trek up the stairs to my seat back in the year 1999 during my first game. Yes going into a new stadium will give a new similar buzz but would that feeling last? Every time I enter the ground to this day I still get those nerves and excitement because I look fondly back on those memories.

So my verdict?

Although a move to the stadium is financially viable and for the best interests for the club, saying goodbye to the Boleyn will be the hardest thing to do for so many fans. But cheap tickets and making the club stronger and on a firmer footing will mean more to so many fans. So as long as they stick to their promises and they bring the football back to the people I’m more than happy to more, but it would be a sad sad day when we wave goodbye to the memories and the good times.

NO NO NO Stop wasting money on poor players on long contracts with Prem wages, and build the club, as we did before from the pitch, not the ground first. The fact Gullivan only own 50% seems to be forgotten, the whole process is carpetbagging at its most obvious, and after the move what will be left of the club we all love? Cheaper seats yes!, because you’ll need binoculars to see the game, rows and rows of empty seats as the hardcore refuse to move, talk to Brighton supporters tomoorow about the Withdean years. NO No No!

For me it’s mixed, I have been going to Upton Park now for over 30 years, this has been on and off and never been a season ticket holder, as a kid it was as and when Dad could afford it and the same when I was a 20 something. Now as a father of a 5 year old we go as often as possible but not nearly enough. A lot of the reason is the transport links as it makes it a very late night for my son when getting back. Stratford is on my line and if season tickets do come down we will be queing from day one to get them. I dont think I am alone in this but and it is a big but, My first game was in 1980 and I remember watching Billy Bonds making tackle after tackle from being so close as I was passed to the front and sat on the wall. Great memories all of them, the walk from the tube to the ground with the buzz of supporters and atmosphere but we can rtecreate that as we are WHU. COYI

can i ask 1 question does anyone realy believe they will drop prices

  • Boo Hammer says:

I cannot support a stadium with stands not named after West Ham legends. Why no Scott Parker stand, I ask, when other Spurs legend Martin Peters is being honoured? And why no place for Billy Bonds, Di Canio or Dean Ashton?

The answer could be not to name stands, but BLOCKS in the stands after West Ham legends. That way I could perhaps buy a seat in say the Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson area of the Trevor Brooking or the Syd Puddefoot area of the Scott Parker.

So YES! As long as West Ham legends are HONOURED within the stadium. That wins me round. But NO if legends I don’t agree with or no legends are honoured.

    • Dean Ashton stand, surely you are on a wind up.

      • Boo Hammer says:

Did I say Dean Ashton? Sorry. I meant Christian Dailly. :p

To be honest – the person who thinks they can buy the Upton Park faithful off with just a few old players mentioned in the names of the stands is on the wind up. Because we all know that in the real world stands would be named after sponsors.

West Ham have not heard noise like the Cup winners cup SF against Dortmund ! and never will again even in a 60000 seater.I am a ST holder in the west lower and no one sings. Thanks to the west lower left and the bobby Moore stand for all the noise!!!

The boleyn ground will always be home to westham fans, but we have to move with the future of the club, as we need to compete with the top four, so westham, have to move into the top elite, of football, and to compete in a fantastic stadium, it’s thr future, of our club, if we could biuld on upton park fine, and turn it into a 60,000 sweater that would be great, but we don’t have the space to do it, so I think that westham f.c. , will be in the top elite in the world, and have one of the best stadiums around. It will be sorry to leave upton park, we need to biuld for the future of out great club, and move on. We will have one of the best staidums in the world, Macca westham.
