FIVE keepers that could replace Green

|

Robert Green has served the club extremely well during his time with the club. Many fans will hope he stays with the club for many more years. However, his contract expires at the end of the season and he has yet to agree a new deal. He has become a cult hero at Upton Park and he has won the Hammer of the Year once and has been a runner up twice. At the moment the club is lacking an experienced goalkeeper, hence the club will need to sign a keeper if Green departs. The following five goalkeepers could be wearing the number one jersey next season.

1. Tomasz Kuszczak

The Polish international keeper is out of contract at the end of the season and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Kuszczak will not be offered a new deal. He has found first team opportunities at Old Trafford tough since his move in 2007 and many clubs will seek to sign the free agent at the end of the season. However, his wages may cause a problem but he has plenty of experience and is only twenty-nine years old. He is younger than Green and will have no doubt learnt a lot from Edwin Van de Sar during his time at Old Trafford.

2. Manuel Almunia

West Ham signed the Spanish keeper earlier in the season to cover the injured Robert Green and he did a satisfactory job during his short stay with the club. Similar to Kuszczak, Almunia is finding first time opportunities tough at Arsenal and will more than likely seek a move before he ends his playing career. West Ham may get the experienced keeper on the cheap but his age is against him and signing him will only be a short term option.

3. Paul Robinson

Robinson was the number one keeper at Blackburn Rovers when Big Sam was in charge. He has forty-one caps for England to his name and is an experienced Premier League keeper. If Blackburn get relegated and West Ham get promoted, Robinson will want a swift return to world’s best league and Big Sam will definitely be interested in the experienced goal stopper. Robinson may cost less than £3 million and he is thirty-two years old, which is considered a peak age for a goalkeeper.

4. Allan McGregor

Rangers dire financial situation at the moment will force them to sell their star players and one them is their keeper McGregor. McGregor has represented the Scottish national team on twenty occasions so far. He has won the Scottish Premier League title three times, Scottish cup three times and the Scottish League cup five times. Many clubs including West Ham will want to sign McGregor cheaply because of Rangers well documented financial issues.

5. Ali Al-Habsi

Although he is liable to a mistake or two, Al Habi’s performances for Wigan in goal have helped the club remain in the Premier League for the past two seasons. Big Sam knows what qualities he brings to the table after signing him for Bolton in 2006. He has represented his country on seventy occasions and if Wigan fail to stay in the Premier League, the Oman international will be available.

sergio assenjo, david de gea’s understudy when at athletico and in my opinion better the the united number 1, he’s the spanish rob green i think, but i would be happy with al habsi, with a decent defence infront of him he would be class

Allan McGregor would be decent, he’s kept goal well for Rangers, playing with a very poor team nowadays & had plenty work to do. He’s just taken a 75% pay cut too!!
