Who has been the best signing so far?

|

Since their arrival in January, Nicky Maynard and Ricardo Vaz Te haven’t exactly excelled, Ravel Morrison has had just one appearance as a substitute so he hasn’t had the chance to shine. George John a talented American full back was brought into the club in the most recent window; the club signed him on

a 2 month long loan and didn’t play him once. The pointless signing of George John perhaps added stability on the bench but Allardyce never felt to even bring him on as a substitute and that was it! George John’s time at West Ham was over and he went back across the pond with zero minutes playing time!

The signing of Nicky Maynard back in January was one that brought great excitement to myself and many other West Ham supporters and he made a fantastic start to his Hammers career; notching his first goal in our most emphatic team display so far this season in Blackpool, West Ham annihilated The Tangerines even with an outfield player in goal. Since the victory in Blackpool, Maynard hasn’t scored once and has been frequently substituted before 60 minutes after a disappointingly lacklustre start to the most recent fixtures. Perhaps he is not being given enough time to prove his class but he has had many chances to double his goal tally. Another factor perhaps why Maynard has not ‘clicked’ yet for the Hammers is his delivery; many of the chances he has had have been of his own accord, a mistake from the keeper following his pressuring runs or a tenacious tackle on the centre back leaving him one on one with the keeper.

I’m a big believer in not caring how the goals go in as long as they hit the back of the net, however I do desire to see an attackers name on the scoresheet and preferably due to my fondness of him Ricardo Vaz Te; ‘Vaz’ as he is known around the training ground has scored twice since his January arrival once at Blackpool (a deflection) after a tenacious chase on what looked like a hopeless

cause. His second goal was the equalizer against Watford and was the goal that the fans hoped would spur their side onto scoring a winner- they didn’t! The next game against Doncaster Rovers in the opening 10 minutes Vaz had a great effort denied by referee on the day Andy D’Urso, unfortunately for Vaz and West Ham his next part in the game was his substitution due to hamstring injury, I believe in this particular fixture that Vaz Te’s substitution took the momentum out of West Ham’s offensive display. Vaz Te has not represented the club since and is said to be on the road to recovery and should be available for selection in 1 or 2 weeks time.

Ravel Morrison in my eyes if given the chance (and by chance I mean more than nine minutes) could be the spark West Ham need to chase Southampton and Reading and win automatic promotion. However, Morrison has represented the development squad and in their most recent encounter against Brentford he scored both goals in a 2-0 win. His second was an individual run, where he beat a defender with a divine piece of trickery and powered home a 20 yard strike. Morrison is definitely a great talent and should be given the chance in the first team.

Danny Collins only recently became a Hammers player arriving on loan from Stoke City and already has made his fair contribution to the clubs promotion push. Collins scored the equaliser or Saturday against Leeds United a header from a corner in the 90th minute. Collins late leveller could prove vital in the long run as it could be the difference between 2nd and 3rd place. Collins will

certainly add experience and will prove a good option to be placed in the starting line-up or to be on the bench.

So, when asked who has been the best signing for West Ham since the January transfer window due to scoring twice for the Hammers I’d probably say Vaz Te. Vaz Te, Collins, Maynard and of course Morrison can all prove massively influential in getting West Ham back in the Premier League. #COYI

Good blog again, Liam. We need two up front, IMHO. Baldock and Cole to start up front. Morrison MUST start instead of Collison.
