Sing Up At The Boleyn

|

Lately Upton Park has become a cauldron of tension and hostility with performances such as Doncaster and Crystal Palace sounding a chorus of boo’s.

I will ask every paying Hammers fan the same question, what does it achieve? Do you think the players feel inspired by this awful atmosphere, does it make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when Carlton Cole is berated by the fan sitting next to you?

Kids for a quid certainly plays a part in creating a new generation of supporters but it almost definitely has a negative effect on the atmosphere within Upton Park. I’m all for Dads taking their kids to the game, that’s how I started, but they need to instil passion into their support instead of showing the children how to boo their favourite players when things aren’t going the Hammers way.

Will it change? I don’t believe it can in its current state, the fans need something to cheer about but the silence around Upton Park has been evident for a long while now.

Anyone who has a manager in their place of work will be familiar with this saying “Don’t bring me problems, bring me solutions” so on that note here’s mine.

Crystal Palace’s support impressed me at the recent game and I know a few Palace supporters you could describe as hardcore fans. They currently have a crop of youngsters that describe themselves as ultra’s, they are basically a group of well organised noisy fans that have created a real atmosphere at Selhurst Park and lots of

fans have followed suit in creating a fantastic noise, even creating new songs for their players (remember those days).

Would it be that implausible to create such a movement at West ham, perhaps the two Dave’s can recruit a group of superfan’s in order to get Upton Park rocking again.

Man City’s support was always so fanatic much like West ham’s but they found that when they moved home to their new stadium the noise levels dropped significantly so they started playing crowd noise down the tannoys to increase the atmosphere.

Maybe to some these ideas would be cringeworthy or an admission that we cannot create the atmosphere that previously intimidated visiting players and fans alike but something needs to change before going to a West Ham game becomes a bore for our

upcoming Hammers youth.

Thanks for the compliments about the Palace support.
It took some time for season ticket holders to “Regroup” into a “SINGING FORCE” at the Holmesdale end of Selhurst.
Not only has it motivated other parts of the ground – but proved so successful that the away support section had to be moved further away.
Football is fun again at Selhurst – without the terraces.
This – despite – winning ugly against Barnsley tonight.
