The Hammers bitter rivals Millwall halted their play off push with a 1-1 draw the last time these two sides met in the football league. It was a season when Millwall had the bragging rights over their East End counterparts having beaten West Ham 4-1 at the Den earlier in the season.

Barry Hayles opened the scoring for Millwall, beating the offside trap to fire in past goalkeeper Jimmy Walker. West Ham bounced back through Marlon Harewood, after he latched on to an excellent pass from Matthew Etherington, and it was West Ham who had the better chances to win the game, with Harewood having his overhead kick brilliant saved by Lions ‘Keeper Andy Marshall while veteran striker Teddy Sheringham squandered a great opportunity in the game’s final minute.

The draw wouldn’t stop West Ham’s play off push as they finished 6th in the year when West Ham returned to the Promised Land. Meanwhile at the Den, Millwall finished a respectable 10th under Dennis Wise but this would turn out to be the last meeting between the sides until the ill tempered Carling Cup clash in 2009.
